NOVELL ANNOUNCES BROAD-BASED INDUSTRY SUPPORT FOR
NEW NETWORK MANAGEMENT PLATFORM
Systems Vendors and Software Developers to Add Value to Novell's
NetWare Management System
SAN JOSE, Calif. -- February 5, 1992 -- Novell, Inc., today
announced the support of a broad range of computer manufacturers
and software developers for its NetWare Management System. The
open, extensible system lets users combine products from Novell and
from third parties to create a complete management system for the
entire network computing environment.
"Novell's new NetWare Management System is designed to consolidate,
simplify and automate many of the tasks now facing the systems
administrator," said Duane Murray, vice president and general
manager of Novell's Network Management Products Division. "We
welcome the participation of the leaders in our industry as they
add their own unique value to our NetWare Management System. The
resulting solutions will allow users to manage their distributed
environments more efficiently, accelerating growth of the network
computing industry."
Industry Leaders Support Novell's Comprehensive Management Platform
"We are excited about the capabilities of these powerful new
network management tools, and about working closely with Novell to
simplify the management and control of PC networks," said Ronnie
Ward, Compaq's director of Novell Systems. "With so many PC
networks today using Novell's NetWare in combination with Compaq
products, we are enthusiastic about the many opportunities to meet
customer needs for network management that Novell and Compaq,
working together, can provide."
"The Novell NetWare Management System platform addresses a
long-standing need among our customers to combine managing hubs,
servers and other network devices from one, easy-to-use integrated
standard management environment," said Bill Lanfri, vice president
of marketing at SynOptics Communications, Inc. "As part of our
commitment to the expanding NetWare user base and our own open
platform strategy, SynOptics intends to take advantage of Novell's
services and tools to integrate our hub management applications,
such as Expanded View, into the NetWare Management System platform.
With our applications running on the NetWare Management System, our
customers will be able to take advantage of the power of SynOptics'
LAN management technology without leaving the NetWare environment."
NetWare Management System Software Development Kits Key for
third-party developers are NetWare Management Systems software
development kits (SDKs) for both Windows and OS/2 environments.
These SDKs consist of published application programming interfaces
(APIs) that specify how to link developer products to the interface
of Novell's NetWare Management System. The SDKs, priced at US$4995,
will be available in April, 1992. Developers can obtain further
information by calling Novell's Network Management Products
Division at 408-473-8333.
The NetWare Management Toolkit, which allows NLM developers to
instrument their NLMs to work within the NetWare Management System
using either SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) or Novell's
NetWare Management Agent, is currently available for US$4995.
Interested developers may call Novell Developer Relations at
1-800-REDWORD (733-9673).
Pricing applies in the United States and Canada only. For pricing
outside the United States and Canada, customers should contact
their local Novell Authorized reseller.
