Welcome to On the Seventh Day! You should read through this carefully, as
most of the commands in the game are awkward to use at first, and aren't
very descriptive without the player documentation.
Before I go any further with the instructions, I would like to take this
time to thank a few people who helped me out along the way.
Shawn Eyer - For all the inspiration in the beginning,
and helping out with the source code
whenever possible. Thanx, man!
Jason Dohm - For taking the time to run through the
strenuous alpha tests at 3:00 AM!
Pat Carter - For introducing me to DoorFrame, which
eased the pain of programming considerably!

And now for the player documentation...
The first version of ON THE 7TH DAY was written in September of 1992,
and took four 2-hour sessions to complete. I missed a whole week of
David Letterman in order to finish this thing!
The original version was very crude. It didn't have ANY door routines,
and had to be run with the aid of Doorway [(c) Sean & Marshall Dudley].
I have since been updating the source, which included four total re-do's
in order to get it running as well as it does.
I really have to thank Ted Freeman for the DoorFrame package, which made
the communications and display routines MUCH easier. And since I no
longer need to worry about the communications routines, I can now spend
all of my programming time to actually improving the game, which will
mean a more enjoyable product for all of you!
Basically what I'm saying is this: If you have any comments about the
game, or technical problems while playing, please leave your sysop a
note and tell him to relay the info to me. Any bug that has not been
previously reported, and is significant to the play of the game, will
result in me sending your sysop a FREE REGISTERED COPY of the door!
So now that you've heard all that crap, what you really want to know
is, 'How do I play,' right?
Well, your character is one of the many gods that is trying to be the
only god with a number of followers when the game ends. In order to
gain followers, you must perform Miracles, and in order to perform
Miracles, you must have followers. (Kinda sounds like normal life,
doesn't it!)
The actual commands in the menus are worded a little differently, but
nevertheless, they all do the same thing.
A - Declare an Ally: This will declare any god your ally, and will
allow you to perform the (W)ork with Ally function.
W - Work With Ally: Will combine your forces with that of your ally
in order to gain more followers for both of you.
B - Banish Enemy: Attempt to send him to Hell and cause him to lose all
of his followers. You also might convert a portion of the
followers he lost. Please note that banishing and killing are
two totally separate things!
E - Declare Enemy: In order to perform Miracles, you must have an enemy,
because your Miracles affect the population of other religions.
You may change your sworn enemy at any time during the game.
M - Perform a Miracle: This is the main way each player gains and/or
loses followers. The more followers you have the more powerful
a Miracle you can perform. You must have an enemy for Miracles.
If, after performing a Miracle, your enemy has less than 100
followers, you may attempt to banish him. If he has no followers
left, you may try to kill him, which puts him out of the game
permanently. Otherwise, the game continues.
D - Devise a New Miracle: If you've gained a large number of followers,
you may want to try to devise a new type of Miracle. But be
very careful! If you have lost a large number of followers and
you try this, you will forget your most powerful Miracles, and
will end up not quite as strong as before!
P - Allow Time to Pass: Letting time pass will let your total number of
followers increase naturally, as well as replentish your energy
level. This is a good option if all the other gods are too strong
for you to do anything about.
S - Send a Messenger: This will let you send one of your messengers to
another god with a message you have written. You may send up to
10 lines in your message to any god you wish.
ONLY AVAILABLE IN THE REGISTERED VERSION OF THE DOOR!!!
R - Show Respect to Another God: Doing this helps out both you and the
god that you are showing respect to. A couple things to remember
about this are: You cannot show respect to a god that is less
powerful than you are, and you cannot show respect to your sworn
enemy. (Why would you even want to?)
V - View Other Religions: This displays a list of religions and the
total number of followers in that religion.
? - Help With Commands: Displays this file.
Q - Quit to the BBS: Self explanitory. Also display Top Scores.
Now that I have explained (for the most part) the options available,
feel free to kick some rear! I know I left out quite a few aspects of
the game, but figuring out the little puzzles are the best part of
playing! Have fun, and be sure to give some feedback!
