- Word Pattern Letter Tile Play Area
-
-
-
- OBJECT
-
- KrisKros is a game for one to four players. The object of the game is to
- form words by placing letter tiles on a grid (similar to a crossword
- puzzle). Some patterns are more difficult than others, and the number of
- points awarded for completion of a pattern will vary from 10 (easy)
- to 25 (difficult).
-
- A player is allotted 90 seconds per turn. During a turn, the player may
- attempt to complete more than one pattern. However, if the player fails
- to complete the current pattern before the time expires, then the points
- awarded for all previous patterns completed on this turn will be
- forfeited (the player's score previous to this turn will be unaffected).
-
-
-
- INSTRUCTIONS
-
- To begin a game, click on the "NEW GAME" button. Next, click on the button
- corresponding to the number of players participating in the game. At this
- point the game will begin, starting with player #1.
-
- Player #1 starts the timer by clicking on the "PLAY" button. Twelve
- randomly selected letter tiles will appear on the playing area, as well
- as a randomly chosen word pattern. The player then attempts to form a
- word or words fitting the pattern. This is accomplished by placing the
- mouse pointer on top of a letter tile then pressing and holding down the
- left mouse button. The tile is then dragged to the desired position on
- the grid and the mouse button is released.
-
- When an acceptable word has been formed on the pattern, the color of the
- letters on the tiles will change to yellow. When the entire pattern has
- been completed, the player may then choose to attempt to complete another
- pattern (once again clicking on the "PLAY" button), or to stop the timer
- (clicking on the "STOP" button) and collect the points accrued during this
- turn. If a player fails to complete a pattern, then NO points will be
- awarded for this turn.
-
- When the time expires or the "STOP" button is pressed, the game continues
- with the next player.
-
- The game is over when one or more players scores' reach 500 points. The
- winner is the player with the highest score at the end of the final
- round.

- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
-
- Each of the letter tiles has associated with it four additional letters.
- A player may reveal these letters by positioning the mouse pointer on top
- of the tile and clicking the right mouse button. A new letter will then
- be shown, the color of the letter changing to green. Subsequent right
- clicks will reveal the three other alternate letters for the tile, and then
- the original letter itself. A player may use one of these alternate letters
- only once per pattern.
-
- If a player is dissatisfied with the letters available, then they may be
- exchanged for new letters by clicking on the "NEW TILES" button. However,
- the tiles in use to form words on the grid will be discarded and exchanged
- as well.
-
- A new game may be started at any time by clicking on the "NEW GAME" button.
-
- You may exit from KrisKros and return to DOS at any time by clicking on
- the "EXIT TO DOS" button.
-
- The player score area will show three pertinent pieces of information during
- the course of a player's turn. Prior to clicking on the "PLAY" button to
- begin the turn, the player's total score for the game is shown. While a
- pattern in being completed, the point value of the pattern in shown. After
- a pattern in completed, the player's cumulative score for the turn will be
- displayed.
-
- The words acceptable to KrisKros number over 7,000. A player may use
- any of these words to complete a pattern. Proper nouns have been excluded
- from the KrisKros dictionary.
