  13. INTRODUCTION

  15. The Duke Nukem 3D Resolution Changer v2.0 is a program that allows you
  16. to run Duke Nukem 3D Shareware v1.3d or Duke Nukem 3D Full Version v1.3d
  17. in any resolution you want to just as long as your monitor and video 
  18. card can support the mode you specify.
  19.  
  20. PROGRAM USAGE
  21.  
  22. To use this program successfully, place it into your Duke Nukem 3D
  23. directory (Example: C:\DUKE3D)  Run the EXE called DUKERES.EXE.
  24. You will see a menu with five different choices.  The choices are:

  26. (1)  Change Duke Nukem 3D Resolution
  27. (2)  Change Configuration File
  28. (3)  Display Duke Nukem 3D Version
  29. (4)  View Documentation
  30. (5)  Quit

  32. The first menu choice, Change Duke Nukem 3D Resolution, serves as the
  33. main function of the program, which is to play Duke Nukem 3D in a
  34. resolution that you specify.  When you choose this option, you'll be
  35. prompted to enter the width and height in pixels of the resolution
  36. you want.  Here is a list of common VESA compliant video modes that
  37. should work:

  39. Width x Height
  40.  
  41. 320  x  200
  42. 320  x  240
  43. 320  x  400
  44. 640  x  480
  45. 800  x  600
  46. 1024 x  768
  47. 1600 x 1200
  48.  
  49. After you enter the width and height, you will then be able to run
  50. Duke Nukem 3D in a whole new way, with good graphics!
  51.  
  52. The second menu choice, Change Configuration file, is used to specify
  53. an alternate Duke Nukem 3D configuration file.  The default file used
  54. is DUKE3D.CFG, but in some cases you may want to specify another
  55. configuration file to write the new resolution data to.
  56.  
  57. The third menu choice, Display Duke Nukem 3D Version, simply tells you
  58. the current version number of Duke Nukem 3D you have, just to verify
  59. that you do in fact have v1.3d and not v1.1 etc.

  61. The fourth menu choice, View Documentation, simply displays the file
  62. you are reading now on the screen.

  64. The fifth menu choice, Quit, exits the program.

  66. WHAT'S NEW IN v2.0
  67.  
  68. 1.  A main menu has been added with five different menu choices.
  69. 2.  The VESA and Screen Buffered mix up has been fixed.
  70. 3.  The program now detects whether VESA should be used or not.
  71. 4.  Resolution changing works with both Shareware and Full versions.
  72. 5.  The program can now display your Duke Nukem 3D version number.
  73. 6.  Alternate Duke Nukem 3D configuration files can be specified.
  74. 7.  This document DUKERES.TXT can be viewed from the program.
  75. 8.  Enhanced error-trapping traps 99% of all program errors.

  77. TROUBLESHOOTING
  78.  
  79. When you run Duke Nukem 3D, if it says that VESA does not support the
  80. mode specified, then your video card probably does not support that mode.
  81. Run DUKERES.EXE again and then choose one of the common video modes
  82. specified above.  If you still receive an error, then maybe you need
  83. to load a VESA driver such as UNIVBE.EXE.  This driver is available
  84. for download on major online services and the Internet.  If all else
  85. fails, delete your DUKE3D.CFG and run SETUP.EXE again to configure
  86. Duke Nukem 3D for your system.

  101. This means that you can freely distribute this program to your

  103. as long as you don't charge people for it and the original files are
  104. all unmodified.  The only exception for distribution is CD-ROM.  If
  105. you plan on distributing this program on CD-ROM, then you must receive
  106. consent from the author, Jason Clay, allowing distribution on CD-ROM.
