The Journal v1.51
Released 20 February, 1998
Copyright ⌐ 1996-1998 David R. Michael
All rights reserved.
WELCOME TO DAVIDRM SOFTWARE'S THE JOURNAL!
- The Journal is a Personal Journal Software specifically designed to help
you organize your thoughts and ideas, whether for business or personal use.
- The Journal always knows what day it is. Entries are automatically tracked by date,
and reviewing past entries is as simple as a click of the mouse.
- The Journal allows you to create multiple entry categories such as "Daily Journal",
"Poetic Scribblings", "Project Notes", and more--completely user defineable!
- The Journal has powerful word processing capabilities (paragraph formatting,
font selection, printing--even a spellchecker and a thesaurus) and full
OLE container support.
- The Journal is secure. Not only can you use a password, all entries are encrypted
before being saved.
- The Journal is very flexible, allowing many options in creating the
perfect Personal Journal for you, while maintaining an unrivaled ease-of-use!
INSTALLING THE JOURNAL:
Decompress (all of) the archive(s) into a temp directory and execute Setup from
Windows 95 Explorer.
INSTALLING OVER VERSIONS v1.30 and later:
NOTE: Do NOT uninstall the previous version!!!
If this is an upgrade version of the Journal, simply decompress the archive into a temp
directory and execute Setup from Windows 95 Explorer. The setup program will correctly
place the upgraded components.
INSTALLING OVER VERSIONS v1.0 to v1.21:
NOTE: Do NOT uninstall the previous version!!!
I have changed my database configuration from v1.21. Specifically, I am no longer
including only the Partial BDE (Borland Database Engine). Instead, I am including
the full BDE package. This will allow the Journal to coexist more peaceably with
other BDE software (e.g., Paradox).
There is a DOS batch file included with the Journal, CLEARBDE.BAT. Launch this batch
file from Windows 95 Explorer or File Manager. This will remove unnecessary files from
the Journal folder.
SPECIAL NOTE TO LONG-TIME USERS:
The default install path has changed since v1.1. This is due to my finding
that I was using someone else's incorporated company name. Thus, the default directory is
no longer:
C:\Program Files\DRM Enterprises\The Journal
It is now:
C:\Program Files\DavidRM Software\The Journal
If you are installing over a previous version, I recommend you verify the
install directory. I do not recommend moving your existing installation to
match the new default.
SETTING UP THE SPELL CHECKER AND THESAURUS
The Spell Checker and Thesaurus dictionaries are located in the Data folder. Assuming
the default installation path, this would be:
C:\Program Files\DavidRM Software\The Journal\Data
REGISTERING THE JOURNAL:
The Journal is Shareware.
The Journal may be evaluated for a period of 21 (twenty-one) days. During this time,
