The Community Place browser uses Microsoft's DirectX sound package to support ambient
sound and MOD format sound files within VRML worlds. If you have previously installed a
version of Community Place and are simply upgrading to a later release, you do not need to
download and reinstall DirectX.
Installing VRML Browser, Community Place
1. Double-click CPB20A2.EXE to execute the file. This will unzip 24 files to the
directory of your choice.
2. After you have successfully unzipped all files double click SETUP.EXE to install
Community Place Browser
3. If you have a trouble, restart your computer and try again.
Netscape Options
Install will normally set up the correct Netscape Navigator options, if you want to check or do
by hand then:
1. Pull down "Options" and select "General Preferences", "Helpers" of the Netscape
Navigator's menu.
2. Click "Create New Type."
3. Type "x-world" in the Mime Type field and "x-vrml" in the Mime SubType field, then click
"OK."
4. Type "wrl" in the File Extensions field.
5. Click Launch the Application.
6. Set the Community Place Browser in the bottom text field.
7. Click "OK."
Starting Community Place
1. Close Netscape Navigator.
2. Double click the relnote.html file in the installation directory.
3. If you are a first-time user and want to learn the basic operation of the Community Place
browser, select the Manual option listed on the release notes page.
4. If you are eager to get started, select the option Entry to Multi-user Worlds on the
release notes page.
Many sample files are also available for your enjoyment.

Voice-Enabled Chatroom
The sample Chatroom archive lets you connect to a U.S. server at
Sony Pictures Imageworks and experience voice as well as text chat within a shared VRML
world. You will find this in the CHAT folder.
