The Visio 5.0c Setup program includes special support for the Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server. The SBS support allows Visio 5.0c to be deployed via the Setup Computer Wizard and the Manage Computers feature in the SBS Console.
To setup Visio for deployment on an SBS network, follow these instructions:
1. Insert the Visio 5.0c CD in the drive of your BackOffice Small Business Server. If Autorun is enabled, the Visio Setup program will be started automatically. At the first Visio setup screen, choose to Exit the Setup program.
2. From the Start Menu, choose Run.
3. In the Open box, type d:\install\setup.exe /v, where d is the letter assigned to your CD-ROM drive.
4. Follow the instructions on the screen. Setup will ask for a location to install Visio. We recommend that you accept the default location. The location can be changed, however due to limitations within SBS, Visio must be installed within the \SmallBusiness\Clients directory tree, and the directory name can be no more than four characters in length.
5. Continue following the directions on the screen.
When setup is complete, you will be able to select Visio as an install option from the Setup Computer Wizard and Manage Computers features within the SBS Console. For more information on installing applications on SBS clients, see the documentation provided with the Microsoft BackOffice Small Business Server software.
------------------------------------
When you apply the SBS 4.01 service release patch, the files that cause visio to be listed as an installable option on client machines (scw.ini and clioc.inf) are overwritten thus removing the ability for SBS to install Visio.
This is a bug in SBS. The work-around is to reinstall Visio on the SBS machine (preferably to the same directory as it was initially installed). There is nothing we can do to fix this problem but we should document the work around in the readme.
