Transcription: Straddling the River Seine, Paris covers an area of around 105 square kilometres. The city was the seat of the first Kings of France and it was Louis XIV who inaugurated the tradition of Paris as a symbol of France's supremacy. Consequent rulers continued the tradition building great architectural monuments such as the Arc de Triomphe which was commissioned by Napoleon as homage to the armies of France and the Eiffel Tower Tower, designed by Gustav Eiffel to commemorate the centenary of the French Revolution.
