  15.     This basic game and the "First Battle" and "A Night on Rangor" 
  16.     scenarios, included in bdp160.zip are distributed as shareware.

  18.     Please make copies of bdp160.zip, and give to your friends or upload 
  19.     to other BBS.  Only the basic game and the "First Battle" and "A Night
  20.     on Rangor" scenarios are shareware.  All additional scenarios and 
  21.     the licensed version of the game are not shareware.  No fees can be
  22.     collected for the copies of bdp160.zip which you give away.  Those
  23.     companies who distribute shareware, on disks for a fee, please see
  24.     the distributor note below.

  26.     Please copy or upload only bdp160.zip and not the individual files.
  27.     This file which is included in bdp160.zip, must be retained in
  28.     any copies distributed.

  32.     INSTALLATION
  33.  
  34.     BATTLES 1.6 is a Windows 3.x application and must be installed
  35.     on a hard disk drive.  You should copy the bdp110.zip file to
  36.     a new directory, preferably called \BATTLES, before unzipping
  37.     the file.
  38.  
  39.     BATTLES 1.6 will expect to find it's initialization file, "bdp.ini",
  40.     in the default Windows directory, which is usually C:\WINDOWS.
  41.  
  42.     You should copy the "bdp.ini" file to the default windows 
  43.     directory.

  45.     Refer to your Windows 3.x User's Guide for the procedure to
  46.     install the BATTLES 1.6 application and icon in the program group
  47.     of your choice.

  49.     The User Manual is on-line, via the HELP menu item of the main
  50.     menu, and you should read it before attempting to play the game.
  51.     Also each scenario has both INFORMATION and HISTORY, which should
  52.     be read before attempting to play a scenario.

  56.     SOUND SUPPORT

  58.     BATTLES 1.6 will provide sound support for the standard PC speaker
  59.     or for Microsoft Multimedia Audio compatible sound boards under 
  60.     Windows 3.1 or greater.

  62.     If you have Windows 3.0, you should upgrade to Windows 3.1 to
  63.     receive the best sound effects.

  65.     The SoundBlaster Sound Board support provided previously under
  66.     Windows 3.0, via the sndblst.dll which had been available from
  67.     Creative Labs, Inc., has been discontinued due to the withdrawal
  68.     of support for the sndblst.dll by Creative Labs, Inc.

  74.     If you are not ordering additional scenarios, but have enjoyed
  75.     STARDATE 2140.2: BATTLES ON DISTANT PLANETS: FIRST BATTLE or A

  82.     If you are a shareware distributor, and would like to distribute
  83.     BATTLES 1.6 on media which you resale.  You must register one copy
  84.     you use for a master in order to obtain permission to distribute the
  85.     BATTLES 1.6 game on your disks.  The minimum registration is $15.00 
  86.     plus shipping.  You will receive a special version of the shareware
  87.     version of BATTLES 1.6 which contains an advertisement for your
  88.     distribution service on the title and closing screens of the game.
  89.     You will then be authorized to distribute the shareware version of
  90.     game.  If you do not register, then you do not have permission to
  91.     distribute this game, and would be violating U.S. Copyright laws if
  92.     you were to do so.

  107.     Additional scenarios are currently available for licensing:

  109.     Desert Counter Attack
  110.  
  111.         Command the remnants of Terran Rangor Strike Force,
  112.         after the Rangor raid, who land on the planet Saudis,
  113.         a desert world, and make repairs in order to continue
  114.         onward to Terra.  Unfortunately, the bugs find them
  115.         and the Terrans must fight off the Tior'ons.
  116.  
  117.     The Princess
  118.  
  119.         The beautiful Princess Yoi, daughter of Maden the
  120.         warlord of Aguilar, has been kidnapped by Ro'Der
  121.         of the evil Mercan Trog and is being held in his
  122.         starfort. An Aguilarian assault force of Warriors,
  123.         Warlords and Hebeast Calvery must rescue her.
  124.         Warriors and Warlords are deployed with magical
  125.         power armor, and the Hebeast fire breathe is great
  126.         for roasting the spitting Trogs.  An intense, urban,
  127.         house-to-house and rescue tactical problem.

  129.     Netherworld
  130.  
  131.         The evil Kar'dare are completing their new Helius Weapon,
  132.         which destroys stars.  As the Kar'daren complex commander,
  133.         command the Slinker and Oker Mechs to defend the Helius.
  134.         As the Terran Assault Force commander you must locate the
  135.         base on the tropical planet Tara Lie and direct the Terran 
  136.         Battle and Scout Mechs, with Hovercraft Transports and 
  137.         Mech Infantry, to destroy the Helius before it can be 
  138.         taken off planet.

  169.     SCENARIOS UNDER DEVELOPMENT (for the licensed game only)

  171.     Air Assault Series
  172.  
  173.         A series of scenarios deploying helicopter assault and
  174.         transport units, infantry squads, light attack vehicles
  175.         and tanks which can be air transported.  While the units
  176.         will be of Earth, circa 1990-2000, these should be very
  177.         entertaining scenarios.

  179.     The Taukoen'en Theory
  180.  
  181.         A Pauri Strike Force trys to locate and capture the
  182.         new star drive in development on the ice planet Ielow. 
  183.         The star physicist, A'an, has assembled a ragtag lot
  184.         of warriors to defend the development center.

  186.     Rite of Passage
  187.  
  188.         The Ts'wana Cadets, of the Tarwa Star Academy must
  189.         defend the facility from the Fildori Storm Troopers
  190.         which are teleporting in to destroy the computer center.

  197.     STARDATE 2140.2: GALACTIC CRUSADE
  198.     
  199.     A companion game is currently under development.  CRUSADE
  200.         will be a "explore and conquer the galaxy game" which will
  201.         not only be super fun to play in it's own right, but will
  202.         also have an optional link to BATTLES which would allow
  203.         the player to "play out in detail" the planetary conquests
  204.         which come about in CRUSADE.
  205.         
  206.     CRUSADE is scheduled to be released in 1994 and will feature
  207.         unique alien lifeforms, dozens of star ship classes, planetary
  208.         economics, hundreds of stars and planets and a galaxy generator
  209.         for unlimited replay.

  214.     TECHNICAL SUPPORT

  216.     Battles is a huge Windows application, and accordingly so, places
  217.     a large demand on your system.  We recommend that you have a minimum
  218.     of 4MB of RAM, and nothing else running (just Windows 3.x) at the
  219.     time, also we recommend running Battles from a hard disk.
  220.     
  221.     If you experience any problems with the game or scenarios, please
  222.     write down the configuration of your system, the scenario you were
  223.     playing, what you where trying to do when the problem occurred,
  224.     and a detailed description of the problem as best as you can,
  225.     and send it to the Glacier Edge Technology address.  If possible
  226.     save the game (*.svg) and mail it on a disk or E-Mail it.
