The game of Tank
The game of Tank lets you set up two sides in a tank battle and start
them off. The tanks will battle on their own when you click on the Combat
button; there are two sides and the battle ends when one side has no tanks
left. A feature of this game is that you can set a behavior pattern for
each tank; the point is to find a combination of a starting formation and
unit behaviors that will consistently win.
To run the game: All units have to have their behavior specified. To
set up a unit, click and drag on a tank until it is positioned where you
want it. When you release the mouse button a request box will come up and
ask you to specify the behavior of the tank as conservative, moderate or
aggressive. In combat all tanks move forward, fire a shot at the nearest
enemy tank, and then move back. The tank's behavior controls how much the
tank moves forward and how much it moves back; aggressive tanks move
forward a lot fire, and then move back only a little, conservative tanks
move forward a little and back almost as much, moderates are in between.
Since the striking power of a tank's shot will vary directly as the
distance, moving forward a lot and back only a little increases the
effectiveness of a tank's shots but also increases its exposure to the other
side's fire. The object is to find a good combination of formation and
behavior for survival.
Notes:
Sometimes the shots miss. This was unintended but was left in because
it adds a random element to the game.
This game is deterministic in that the original configuration will
always determine the outcome, and there are no random factors (if a shot
missed the first time it will miss again if the game is replayed). However
a very small difference in the startup configuration can cause big
differences in the outcome.
In the game's current configuration there is no way to replay a game
exactly.
