  1. Archivers v 4.8!
  2.  
  3. Archivers provides you with a quick, intuitive Windows interface 
  4. for using the file compression programs ZIP, ARJ, LZH and 
  5. Microsoft's Compress and Expand programs.  The Archivers window 
  6. is laid out with a Source and a Target directory visible on your 
  7. screen.  This allows you to see and control all of the Archivers 
  8. functions.  The Archivers menus provide quick access to all of the 
  9. uncompression and compression commands, and, for added speed, 
  10. Archivers also provides an "instant menu" which can be accessed 
  11. anywhere in the Archivers window by clicking on your right mouse 
  12. button and provides you with instant access to the more frequently 
  13. used menu items.  Archivers also offers the ability to view, extract 
  14. or delete individual files within your Zip, Lzh and Arj files before 
  15. uncompressing them.

  17. And Archivers does not limit itself to file compression and 
  18. uncompression.  It also offers a complete file management system; 
  19. allowing you to create directories, delete directories, copy and 
  20. move files, search for files, view and execute files, and backup 
  21. system files - all directly from the Archivers window.  By double 
  22. clicking on files, you can also view text files, BMP files and GIF 
  23. files, as well as execute EXE files.  There is also a user-defined 
  24. text editor and graphics viewer which you can add to the Editors 
  25. or Viewer menus for viewing text and graphics files.  We have 
  26. recently added a directory comparison function as well, which can 
  27. compare a working directory and a backup directory and automatically 
  28. update the files that have been changed.

  30. This version of Archivers is Windows 95 compatible.

  32. You will need to have the VBRUN300.DLL file installed in your 
  33. Windows\System directory in order for Archivers to run and before you
  34. can run the Archivers setup program. You will also need to
  35. have the the following archiving utilities fully extracted in a 
  36. directory which is located in your path:

  38. For the PKZip program,PKZ204G.EXE; 
  39. For the ARJ program, ARJ239a.EXE or ARJ250.EXE (most recent versions); 
  40. For the LHA program, LHA212.EXE.
  41. (the EXE filename may depend on the version of the program.).

  43. From PKZ204g.exe, Archivers uses Pkzip.exe, Pkunzip.exe, Pkzipfix.exe, 
  44. and Zip2exe.exe. 
  45. From Arj239a.exe all you will need is Arj.exe. 
  46. From Lha212.exe lha.exe is all that is needed.

  48. Please ensure these files are in your path.  These files are not 
  49. furnished as part of the Archivers Program.  They can be obtained
  50. from most online services or BBSs or from the KnowWare web page at
  51. http://www.pioneer.net/~knoware/.

  53. After extracting the archiver.exe file, you should see the following
  54. files:

  76. To load Archivers onto your system, go to the File menu of your
  77. Windows Program Manager and choose Run.  Choose the Archivers
  78. setup.exe file from the directory or disk and click on OK.  The
  79. setup program will load all the necessary files onto your system
  80. and create a KnowWare program group for Archivers. If You are using 
  81. Windows 95 go to the Start button and choose Run.

  83. Setup will install the .pif  files into your Windows directory, 
  84. along with the compress and expand .exe files.  All .dll and .vbx 
  85. files will be installed into your windows\system directory.
  86. And the setup program will create an knowware directory which will
  87. contain the archiver .exe and .hlp files along with the readme.wri.
  88. If you ever want to uninstall Archivers, all you need to do is remove
  89. all of these files from your system.  No changes are made to your
  90. autoexec.bat file or any .ini file on your system.

  92. After installation of Archivers is complete please view the Archivers 
  93. Readme by double clicking its icon. There is also a "What You Will Need" 
  94. menu item located in the program's Help menu.

  96. Archivers may be distributed freely, as long as no fee is charged 
  97. for the distribution and all of the files listed above are included
  98. with the program, but it may in no way be bundled with or included 
  99. into another program without obtaining prior written permission 
  100. from the author.
