OnTop II (TM) Copyright 1993, Phillips Design
Shareware Version 2.21cs 9/27/93
You have just unzipped the latest version of OnTop II (tm), the easy to use
window management tool from Phillips Design.
OnTop grew out of necessity; as a programmer I often needed a DOS window or
the Notepad handy. I also liked to run with full sized windows - so clicking
off of Notepad or Calculator would make it disappear!!
Improvements in this version of OnTop II...
Two types of registration; buttons to end apps, invoke Program Manager, and
simply GoTo... an app without making it OnTop.
To install, just copy the two program files, ontop2.exe and otdos.pif, into
your Windows directory.
Next, start windows,and click on the group that you want to install OnTop II
into. (Accessories is good.) From the Program Manager, choose File|New, then
click OK on the default <Program Item> selection. A dialog box will appear;
the description could be "OnTop II", or anything else you'd like to call it.
The command line must be "ontop2.exe", preceded with a path if the program is
not in the Windows directory. Choose OK and you're ready to run.
(P.S. Don't include the quotes around file names!)
Hint: You can replace taskman.exe with ontop2.exe; this will let you pop-up
the OnTop II program by hitting the <Ctrl><Esc> key combo. Rename the orginal
taskman.exe just in case you need it later.
Hint: Alternatively, you could make the following entry in the win.ini file
found in your windows directory:
load=ontop2.exe
This will load OnTop II minimized as an icon when you run windows.
Another hint: Drag the OnTop II icon into the Startup group to have the OnTop
program automatically run.
NOTE:
There is a file called otdos.pif included with OnTop II. This is a Program
Information File, that tells Windows how to run a DOS program. In this case
the DOS program is simply a DOS window. You can use the Windows PIF Editor
to change the settings in otdos.pif, if you don't like the way it came. You
could also modify otdos.pif to start a DOS batch file that runs your favorite
old DOS program...
