  18.             Now Better Than Ever!

  22. DiskSalv 3 is the first commercial version of DiskSalv.  Developed by
  23. Dave Haynie and published by Intangible Assets Manufacturing, it is
  24. the fourth major revision of DiskSalv, and it offers features never
  25. before found in DiskSalv or other Amiga disk utilities.  While it
  26. would be difficult to list every new feature of DiskSalv 3 in a
  27. reasonably short announcement letter, new features include:

  30. * A Hot New Look
  31.  
  32.   The DiskSalv 2 user interface has been completely reworked. While
  33.   the best features have been retained, much has been improved.  The
  34.   font sensitivity is better than ever -- why should a utility tell
  35.   you which font you must use?  The overall look is cleaner, with
  36.   graphical queues throughout that enhance operations without making
  37.   undue demands on your system's memory or pretending to be a video
  38.   game.  Gadgets and help texts are context sensitive.  Device
  39.   selection throughout is drag-and-drop, though of course enhanced list
  40.   selection is still available for the asking.  Interactive AmigaGuide
  41.   links are provided for every gadget and menu function, available at
  42.   the press of the HELP key.

  44. * An Ounce of Prevention...

  46.   A disk can now be checked for troubles without actually making any
  47.   repairs, for extra confidence.  Deleted directories, files, and data
  48.   can be permanently erased for added security, program releases, etc.
  49.   Traditional full or incremental backups are supported, in the same
  50.   style as DiskSalv's recovery functions.

  52. * ...And a Pound of Cure

  54.   You still get traditional DiskSalv functions, only better.
  55.   Undeletes can often be performed in-place.  A fully redesigned
  56.   filter mechanism supports pattern matching on full pathnames,
  57.   file notes, dates, file sizes, and/or protection bits.  Pattern
  58.   matches can be used to include a file in a scan, exclude it, or stop
  59.   a scan on a match.  Any number of filter groups may be active at the
  60.   same time, and such groups may be loaded from disk.

  64.   A new intelligent prefetching disk cache, buffered file I/O, and
  65.   improved internal design makes DiskSalv faster than ever.  The
  66.   scroll bar calculations have been refined for greater accuracy.

  70.   Device description editing and volume searching functions have been
  71.   greatly enhanced.  DiskSalv can freely convert between its internal
  72.   device format, standard Amiga ASCII format (DOSDrivers files), and
  73.   Rigid Disk Blocks (the standard autoboot format).

  77.   A complete, on-line AmigaGuide manual is included to aid both
  78.   beginner and advanced user.  Details range from the basics through
  79.   a complete theory of operation.  Decriptions of all DiskSalv file
  80.   formats and associated C Language "include" files are also supplied.

  82.   Environmental awareness is a DiskSalv tradition.  Back in the
  83.   DiskSalv 1 days, Dave encouraged folks to "register" the shareware
  84.   by sending money to Greenpeace.

  86.   After careful consideration of the environmental impact of printed
  87.   manuals for frequently updated computer software, we have decided to
  88.   provide only AmigaGuide documentation.  We believe that you will
  89.   appreciate having completely up-to-date documentation with
  90.   hypertext links and will appreciate our contribution to the health
  91.   of our Earth.  Additionally, the entire DiskSalv package is reusable,
  92.   so there won't be anything you have to throw away or recycle without
  93.   getting at least one more use from it.
