  15. and support files can be found in many places; read the file "Where" for
  16. further details.  To contact the authors with suggestions, bug reports, or
  17. fixes, continue reading this file (README) and the file "ZipRules".  For
  18. a list of known bugs and possible future features, read "BUGS".  And for a
  19. commented listing of the files included in the source distribution, read
  20. "Contents" in said distribution.

  26. This version of UnZip has been ported to a wide array of microcomputers,
  27. minis, mainframes and supercomputers; and operating systems including
  28. Unix, VMS, TOPS-20, OS/2, MS-DOS (+ Windows), Windows NT, Amiga, Minix, 
  29. and Macintosh.  Although highly compatible with PKWARE's PKZIP and PKUNZIP
  30. utilities of MS-DOS and OS/2 fame, our primary objectives have been porta-
  31. bility and other-than-MSDOS functionality.  UnZip features not found in
  32. PKUNZIP include source code; default extraction of directory trees (with 
  33. a switch to defeat this, rather than the reverse); VMS, Macintosh and 
  34. OS/2 extended file attributes; and, of course, the ability to run under 
  35. most of your favorite operating systems.  Plus, it's free. :-)

  37. See the main Contents file for a list of what's included.  The individual
  38. operating systems Contents files (e.g., VMS/Contents) may list important
  39. compilation info in addition to explaining what files are what, so be sure
  40. to read them if you're not compiling under Unix.  Some of the ports have
  41. their own, special README files, so be sure to look for those, too.

  43. New features in this version include full Amiga and TOPS-20 support, funzip
  44. ports to OS/2 and ...

  46. See unzip.1 or unzip.doc for usage (or zipinfo.1/zipinfo.doc for ZipInfo
  47. usage, or funzip.1/funzip.doc--do you sense a pattern here?--for FUnZip
  48. usage).  Unfortunately the VMS versions of these documents are out of date
  49. now; we hope to correct this soon.

  51. All bug reports and patches (context diffs only, please!) should go to 
  52. zip-bugs@xx.xxxx.edu, and suggestions for new features can be sent to 
  53. info-zip@xx.xxxx.edu (although we don't promise to use all suggestions).
  54. If it's something which is manifestly useful, sending the required patches 
  55. to zip-bugs directly is likely to produce a quicker response than asking 
  56. us to do it.  Those directly responsible for updating the code are somewhat
  57. short on time these days.  If you're considering a port, however, please 
  58. check in with Info-ZIP FIRST, since the code is constantly being updated 
  59. behind the scenes (witness the new Amiga and TOPS-20 ports in this ver-
  60. sion; VM/CMS and QDOS ports are under construction).  We'll arrange to 
  61. send you the latest source.  The alternative is the possibility that your 
  62. hard work will be tucked away in a sub-archive and pretty much ignored 
  63. (or maybe just lost).
