  4.     Even  though  the Amiga range of computers are excellent, the world
  5. PC  market  is  still dominated by IBM PC's.  So you might want to run some
  6. programs  written  for  the  IBM PC but don't want to buy another computer.
  7. This is where PC-Task comes in, it allows you to run the majority of IBM PC
  8. programs  on  your  Amiga  computer  and  hence  make use of the memory and
  9. peripherals  you already have.  The speed of PC-Task is directly related to
  10. the speed of you Amiga so when you make your Amiga faster your PC emulation
  11. becomes  faster.   No extra hardware is required, and PC-Task multitasks so
  12. you  can  continue  to run other applications.  This is the Demo version of
  13. the program.  Many features are disabled but you can boot and run software.

  15. Getting started with demo version:-
  16.  
  17.     1. If using Kickstart 1.2/1.3 run the TDPatch1213 program.
  18.     2. Run PC-TaskDemo.
  19.     3. Insert a bootable(system) 3.5 DSDD 720K MS-DOS disk into DF0:.
  20.     4. Press the start button.
  21.     
  22.     PC-Task should now start booting into a IBM-PC......

  28.     Floppy  drives  can  be  specified with their Amiga name (eg DF0:).
  29. You  can use the software that comes with Workbench 2.1/3.0 or others, just
  30. change DF0:  to PC0:  or whatever.
  31.  
  32.     PC-Task  allows  two  types  of  entries  for Hard Drives.  You can
  33. specify  a  Hard  Drive  file if you have set up a Hard Drive file (PC-Task
  34. Hard Drive files are compatible with bridgeboard ones).  Just give the file
  35. name  and  PC-Task  will  treat  that file just like the bridgeboard would.
  36. PC-Task  also accepts Amiga partitions as hard drives.  If you have already
  37. set one up all you do is specify the partition name(eg DH3:).  If the entry
  38. for Hard Drive C is bootable PC-Task will boot directly from that.

  40.     Since  writing  to  disks is not enabled with the demonstration you
  41. cannot  create a new hard drive as the MSDOS programs fdisk and format have
  42. to write to the hard drive.
  43.  
  44.     MDA,  CGA  and some EGA/VGA graphics adapter emulation is included.
  45. With  the  CGA  emulation providing the best compatibility and MDA the best
  46. speed.  Besides the different palette definition only one VGA mode requires
  47. the AGA chipset (in the A1200/A4000 and future machines). Modes supported:-

  50.     Mode 02   Text    80*25   CGA,EGA,VGA

  53.     Mode 05 Graphics 320*200  CGA,EGA,VGA
  54.     Mode 06 Graphics 640*200  CGA,EGA,VGA
  55.     Mode 07   Text    80*25   MDA,EGA,VGA
  56.     Mode 0D Graphics 320*200  EGA,VGA
  57.     Mode 0E Graphics 640*200  EGA,VGA
  58.     Mode 0F Graphics 640*350  EGA,VGA
  59.     Mode 10 Graphics 640*350  EGA,VGA

  64.     The  serial  and  parallel  port  can  be  used  in  the emulation.
  65. Printing is disabled in the demo version.  Use of serial and parallel ports
  66. other  than  the  internal  ones  is supported with the SERIAL and PARALLEL
  67. tooltypes.

  69.     The  mouse  emulation can be turned on by pressing LeftAmiga-P.  It
  70. should be turned on just before starting the MSDOS program.

  73. PC-Task Help

  76. How do I create a bootable(system) 3.5 DSDD 720K MS-DOS disk:-
  77.  
  78. 1. If you own a IBM-PC that has a 3.5 drive use a command like
  79.    "format a: /s /n:9" OR "format a: /s /f:720"
  80. 2. Purchase MSDOS.
  81.  
  82.  
  83. Not getting enough memory for you PC, try one or more the following:-
  84.  
  85. 1.  Make a boot disk that only runs PC-Task (and TDPatch1213 if 1.2/1.3).
  86. 2.  Select MDA graphics adapter.
  87. 3.  Turn off the Serial or Parallel.
  88. 4.  Disconnect external disk drives.
  89. 5.  Lower the value of "Minimum Leave Available".
  90. 6.  Run the LeaveSlowFast program if you have a 512K Chip/512K Slow Fast.
  91. 7.  Don't crunch the PC-Task program.

  94. Slow operation, try one or more the following:-
  95.  
  96. 1.  Use the MDA graphics Adapter.
  97. 2.  If you must use CGA/EGA/VGA, try the MAXDEPTHTWO=ON or MAXDEPTHTHREE=ON
  98. tooltypes.
  99. 3.  Get some true fast ram especially on non AGA machines.
  100. 4.  Get a faster processor.
  101. 5.  Get Kickstart version 2 or later.
  102. 6.  If you have only a small amount of fast ram try FORCEFASTMEM tooltypes.

  105. Not getting a cursor, try one or more the following:-
  106.  
  107. 1. Turn off mode promotion.
  108. 2. Reduce overscan.
  109. 3. Move the screen to the right.
  110. 4. Don't run other programs that require sprites.
