WHAT GolfCap DOES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GolfCap is a database program that allows a Golfer to keep up
with the progress of his/her game in several different ways. It
keeps detailed accounts of each game and allows the user to pull
up any Game Record for an extensive review of that particular game.
The Summary of all games provides the Golfer with the totals of
many different facets of the game. If you want to know how many
strokes you have made since you started keeping records, it's in
the Summary. Other interesting items are also provided such as
the average strokes per hole for all the holes you've recorded,
the totals of all the Pars, Birdies, Bogeys, etc. for an entire
golfing season. This summary might well be the most interesting
and informative source of game progress you will ever be able to
find. Need to know how much you've spent on Green Fees and/or
Cart Rental Fees? It's right there in the "Summary".
You can pull up for review, the score card for any game you've
recorded and check to see just what the score was on any hole you
wish. Need to know WHO you played what COURSE with on a given
DATE and what your SCORE was? No problem! If you entered names
of your playing partner(s) when you recorded the game, all that
information is right at your fingertips.
In the registered version, GolfCap will automatically update a
Golfer's Handicap Index each time a new Game is added to the
database PROVIDED the Golfer has a total of 5 or more 18-hole
games recorded in the database. This eliminates the need to
manually update the Handicap Index for each Golfer.
9-hole games are not used by GolfCap for handicapping purposes,
however the stats for 9-hole games are included in the Summary
report.
REQUIREMENTS
~~~~~~~~~~~~
GolfCap requires a computer rated as being 100% IBM compatible.
Most clones on today's market will meet this requirement. GolfCap
requires a computer to have at least 512k of conventional memory.
Most computers available on the current market will have 640k as a
minimum with many offering 1 MegaByte or more. If you do encounter
memory problems running GolfCap, disable any TSR (Terminate-Stay-
Resident) programs such as pop-up clocks, note pads, menus, etc.
A minimum of 350k of free memory is an ideal operating environment
for GolfCap. GolfCap requires about 300K of free memory to load.
Your CONFIG.SYS file should contain the following statements:
FILES=20 (or more)
DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS (or directory where ANSI.SYS is located)
GolfCap has been tested on many different type and brands of
computers. These machines varied from 8086 XT machines up to
80486 machines running at 90 Mhz and the Pentium machines. All
of the test machines were rated as being 100% IBM compatible.

When a user registers GolfCap and receives the Key file, a copy
should be made for "backup" purposes.

Printer Requirements:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
GolfCap can be used with or without a printer. When selecting to
print Summary Report, Individual Game Reports and the GolfCap Order
form, any printer (Dot Matrix or Laser or InkJet) may be used.
The ONLY time a LASER or InkJet printer is required is when the
user wishes to print blank score cards for a course in the database.
GolfCap allows the user to select any of three Parallel Ports to
be used when printing. These port numbers are 1, 2, and 3 The
port number you wish to use can be selected at the PullDown Menu
under UTILS at the Main Menu. Once selected, the port number is
remembered by GolfCap and will be used when a printing operation
is selected. The port selected will remain as the default until
changed again by the user.
Windows:
~~~~~~~
GolfCap will run both inside and outside of Windows v3.1 or higher
including Windows'95.
Stableford Scoring Method:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The Stableford Scoring Method is based on points awarded in relation
to a fixed score (PAR) at each hole as follows:
Score Points
--------------------------------------------
Two or more over Par --------------- 0
One over Par ----------------------- 1
Par -------------------------------- 2
One under Par ---------------------- 3
Two under Par ---------------------- 4
Three under Par -------------------- 5
Four under Par --------------------- 6
GolfCap automatically calculates the Stableford points for each new
Game Record when it is saved to the database.
