Extras
──────
This screen will list additional options available after GolfTour
is registered.
Registering GolfTour will unlock ALL options not available in the
shareware version.
When registered, all limits, capacities, etc. are removed. The
registered owner will receive a "Key" file which GolfTour searches
for upon loading. If not found, it runs in shareware mode. If the
"Key" file is found in the same directory, GolfTour runs in full
registered mode with all options available. The "Key" file is a
lifetime key and will work with ALL future versions of GolfTour.
After GolfTour is registered and the Key file is in place, any
later version of GolfTour will recognize and use the "Key" to
unlock all options. Any time you find a copy/version of GolfTour
dated later than the one you're currently using, all you need do
is copy GOLFTOUR.COM and GOLFTOUR.HLP over the top of the older
versions and you will be instantly upgraded to the latest version
in registered mode.

1. Requirements: GolfTour will run on any IBM compatible computer
from an old slow XT to the latest/fastest Pentium. Other
helpful items are as follows:
■ DOS v3.1 or higher (including Windows v3.1, v3.11 and Windows'95).
■ 400K of free disk space (runs best on a Hard Disk).
■ 300K of free memory.
■ It's helpful if your CONFIG.SYS file contains the following
two statements:
1.
DEVICE=C:\WINDOWS\COMMAND\ANSI.SYS (if running Windows'95)
DEVICE=C:\DOS\ANSI.SYS (if running DOS v3.1 - v6.22)
2.
FILES=30 (or more if necessary)
■ Refer to your DOS manual for help with editing CONFIG.SYS
■ A Mouse is handy when using GolfTour but it's extremely easy
to use GolfTour if you don't have a Mouse.
■ A color monitor is also nice but not required. GolfTour
can detect the type of monitor you have and will set it's
screen colors as necessary.
■ GolfTour will run from the DOS prompt just as well as it
runs in Windows. GolfTour detects the environment and
adapts itself accordingly.
2. Windows'95: GolfTour runs in Windows'95 and the earlier versions
(v3.1 and v3.11) of Windows.
To get the best results in Windows'95, follow the steps below:

installing and running a program in Windows'95.
3. Searching for a Golfer: If you have more than 20 golfers in the
database, you will be asked to enter the golfer's last name. All
you need do here is type the first 2 or more letters of the
golfer's last name. This enables GolfTour to quickly narrow down
the golfer you're searching for to just those golfer's whose last
name begins with the first two letters that you entered. You will
then be shown a PickList where you can select the golfer of choice.
4. GolfTour will run inside a DOS Window in OS/2 v2.1+ and OS/2 Warp.
Either a DOS window or DOS FullScreen is acceptable with the Full
Screen method preferred.
5. GolfTour WILL NOT run on Apple or MacIntosh computers. At this time
no plans exist in the foreseeable future for a version of GolfTour
that is compatible with these computers.
6. Additional helpful information:
USING THE MENU
──────────────
If using a Mouse, all you need do is click on the heading of choice
then, when the PullDown Menu appears, click again on the selection
of choice.
If you do not have a Mouse, when the MainMenu screen appears, press
and release your <Alt> key. When this is done, a PullDown Menu will
appear at the upper left side of the screen under the MISC heading.
To move the PullDown Menu to a different heading, use the RightArrow
and LeftArrow keys. To scroll the PullDown Menu, use the DownArrow
and UpArrow keys. When at the desired selection, press <Enter>.
To exit a PullDown Menu, press <Esc> or use RightArrow/LeftArrow Keys
to move to the next TopMenu heading.
USING A PICKLIST
────────────────
A PickList is similar to the PullDown Menus except it will always
appear at the upper left side of the screen. It will consist of
available options such as Tournament, Team, or Golfer names, etc.
Select options from a PickList just like you do in the PullDown
Menus.
To exit a PickList, press <Esc> or click Mouse on the rectangular
dot in the upper left corner or the PickList box.
REMOVING RECORDS
────────────────
While GolfTour has capacities limited only by available memory and
disk space, it is best if you remove old Tournament records as soon
as they are no longer needed. When GolfTour is asked to do a search
operation, the less old records it has to wade through, the better. A
search operation takes time and requires additional memory. When you
remove a Tournament record, all associated Game records are removed.
Team and Golfer records are adjusted but not removed when removing a
Tournament record.
When Team or Golfer records are removed, all Game records associated
with the Team or Golfer are also removed. If you wish to retain
Team and Golfer records for later Tournaments but get rid of some of
their old Game records, use the "Remove Game" option located in the
PullDown Menu under the UTILS heading. If a Game record is removed
the Tournament's total game count is adjusted along with adjusting
the associated Team or Golfer's game count.
All options regarding the removal of records are found in the PullDown
Menu under the UTILS heading.
WITHDRAWALS FROM TOURNAMENT
───────────────────────────
Should you have competitors withdraw from a Tournament before the last
game is played, you should immediately remove that Team or Golfer from
the database so their scores won't be included in the Flight totals.
Leaving Team or Golfer records in the database after they have with-
drawn from a Tournament may cause the Flight Reports to show inaccurate
results for the Flight that Team or Golfer was in.
FLIGHT BREAKPOINTS
──────────────────
Flight breakpoints are the minimum and maximum scores for each Flight
in a Tournament. GolfTour compiles the Flight Summary and individual
Flight Reports based on scores turned in for the FIRST day of play or
the FIRST game recorded for a Team or Golfer. For this reason, it is
important that you ENTER SCORES IN THE ORDER THEY ARE RECEIVED. The
breakpoints are determined by the user after looking at the scores
from the first day of play. To view all Tournament scores, select the
"Tournament Scores" option in the PullDown Menu under the Main Menu
heading REVIEW. This list can also be printed by selecting the same
option from the PullDown Menu located under the PRINT heading. After
determining where the breakpoints should be, write them down then
select the "Tournament" option from the PullDown Menu located under
the EDIT heading. If more than one Tournament record is in the data-
base, you will select from a PickList the Tournament you wish to edit.
When the next screen appears, press <Enter> until the prompts appear
on the left side of the screen asking for the Flight BreakPoints. At
the Championship Flight, enter the lowest score turned in on the first
day of play. Next you enter the score at the Championship Flight's
breakpoint. You then go from there to the "A" or "1st" Flight and
so on until you have entered the required information for the number
of flights you have indicated. See the example below:
You indicate that you want to have seven Flights and the lowest score
of the 1st day is a 62. BreakPoints should be selected where each
Team/Golfer has the opportunity to catch the leader in each Flight
and there are enough Teams/Golfers in each Flight to win 1st through
3rd with 1 or more Teams/Golfers not placing.
This is an example of Team scores turned in on the 1st day:
Flight Min Max
────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Championship ... ___ -- ___ <== Enter 62 and 65 for min/max scores
A Flight ....... 66 -- ___ <== Enter 70 for max score
B Flight ....... 71 -- ___ <== Enter 74 for max score
C Flight ....... 75 -- ___ <== Enter 80 for max score
D Flight ....... 81 -- ___ <== Enter 85 for max score
E Flight ....... 86 -- ___ <== Enter 90 for max score
F Flight ....... 91 -- ___ <== Enter highest 1st day score
If you wish to exit early, without saving the new information, press
and release the <F10> key then press and release the <Enter> key.
After setting the breakpoints, you can always go back and change them
later if desired. GolfTour will know that changes have been made each
time it's asked to compile and print the Flight Summary and individual
Flight Reports.
Always wait until ALL the scores for the first game/day are in before
setting the breakpoints.
FLIGHT SUMMARY / REPORTS
────────────────────────
After the Flight BreakPoints are selected, and GolfTour is asked to
print or review the Flight Summary and Flight Reports, it will then
compile these lists based on the scores recorded as the FIRST GAME or
FIRST DAY of play. Whatever score in entered first for each Team or
Golfer is the score that will be used to place all the Teams or
Golfers into their respective Flights. From that point forward, if
the Tournament lasts more than 1 day, each Team or Golfer's score
for the second and subsequent games will be added to the score of the
first game. The Flight Report will show a total of all games recorded
for each Team or Golfer in each Flight.
If you inadvertently enter a score from the 2nd or later game as the
1st game for a Team/Golfer, you must remove ALL that Team's/Golfer's
games in the Tournament from the database (Use Remove Game option
under UTILS Heading) and re-enter them in the correct order (the 1st
game played by the Team/Golfer is ALWAYS entered FIRST). After the
1st game is entered, it doesn't matter in what order the remaining
games for a Team/Golfer is entered.
REINDEX DATABASE
────────────────
After a Tournament is over this option should be selected to clean-up
the database and insure that all records are valid and each Game record
is credited to the correct Tournament record.
This option should always be used after a Tournament has been removed
from the database. It's OK, but not necessary, to use this option after
a Team, Golfer or Game Record has been removed from the database also.
If a Tournament is over and you have printed the Tournament Scores,
Flight Summary and Reports, it's best to remove the Tournament record
before the next Tournament record is entered. This helps to keep the
database tidy and improves over-all speed and reduces excessive memory
consumption by not having to wade through a large number of old records.
Note that if you have several Tournament records along with a lot
of Team and/or Golfer records in the database, this procedure can
take several minutes to complete as it must compare each Team record
against each Tournament and Game record then do the same with each
individual Golfer record.
ADDING GAMES
────────────
When adding games, ALWAYS enter the FIRST game played by each Team or
Golfer BEFORE adding games played on the second and subsequent days of
Tournament play. BE SURE also, that the number of games entered for
each Team or Golfers is the same; DO NOT enter more or less games for
one Team or Golfer than you do ALL the others.
ENTERING THE DATE
─────────────────
When you're asked to enter the date, if the date you wish to enter is
the current date, all you need do is press <Enter> and the current
date will be inserted using the date format you have selected. If you
wish to use a date other than the current date, be sure you use the
same date format for all dates entered.
ENTERING NEW RECORDS
────────────────────
If you wish to stop entering a new record (Tournament, Team, Golfer,
or Game) before all data has been entered, press and release the <F10>
key then press and release the <Enter> key. You will be returned to
the MainMenu. The record will not be saved.
This method also works when editing an existing record. The edited
information is not saved and the original information is retained.
HANDICAPPING
────────────
Teams/Golfers may be handicapped when they are first entered into the
database or they may be handicapped when each of their games are
entered. If a Team/Golfer has a handicap set, this Team's/Golfer's
scores will always be their Net Score (Total Score MINUS Handicap)
for each game. A handicap amount can always be added/changed/removed
at the Edit Team / Edit Golfer options under the TopMenu heading EDIT.
It's also possible to add a handicap amount to ALL Teams/Golfers in
any Tournament by entering a handicap value when the Tournament is
first entered into the database.
~~~
[1/9]
Quit
────
This option will end your session with GolfTour and return you to
the DOS prompt, Windows, or the menu from where GolfTour was first
started.
~~~
[2/1]
Add Tournament Record
─────────────────────
This is the FIRST record that must be added to the database before
any other options can be used. A Tournament record contains all the
information needed by other procedures such as adding Game, Team and
individual Golfer records.
First you enter the name of the tournament. This field is limited
to 40 characters so some abbreviation may be needed if the name of
the tournament is a long one.
Next you select the type of tournament. You have 2 choices here;
either it will be a Type #1 (Team vrs Team) event, where teams
compete against each other. Teams can have as many as 6 members.
The other type is where individual golfers compete against each
other. This will be shown as a Type #2 (Individual vrs Individual)
event.
If you select type 1, you will next enter the number of team
members. This can be a figure from 2 to 6. GolfTour will not
accept any other numbers. Next, you enter the team leader or
captain. This and the following fields for the team member names
are limited to 15 characters so you may want to enter the first
initial and last name only. After entering the team leader's name,
you will enter the names for each member of the team.
After all team members are entered, you will enter the address and
telephone number of the team leader. This will provide the
tournament coordinator the information needed to contact the team
before tournament time if necessary.
You will enter the name of the Course where the tournament will be
played, the number of expected Flights (estimated). These numbers
can be changed at the "Edit Tournament" option under the TopMenu
heading EDIT, as often as necessary.
You can enter a Course Handicap if desired. If no handicap is
needed, enter a zero (0) here and press <Enter> to go to the next
prompt. If you elect to enter a Course Handicap here, ALL Teams
or Golfers in the Tournament will be handicapped using this figure.
When all necessary information has been enter, you can elect to
<S>ave the record, Start<O>ver to correct any errors, or <Q>uit
without saving the record.
~~~
[2/3]
Add Golfer Record
─────────────────
Use this option to add an individual golfer to the database. This
individuals will be record will be retained and can be used when
a tournament is for individual golfers competing against each
other. These records will not be available or recognized when
entering information for a tournament of the "Team" type.
You will be asked for the basic information; name, address,
telephone, etc. Along with providing this information, you will
be asked to enter a handicap which can be used if needed. This
can be the golfer's official handicap or it can be one assigned
by the tournament committee if necessary.
You have the option of entering a handicap figure for each golfer
if desired. If you enter a handicap figure here, this golfer will
be handicapped using this value in ALL games recorded until changed
using the "Edit Golfer" option found under the TopMenu heading EDIT.
If a golfer knows his/her Handicap Index, you can use the "Course
Handicap" option located under the REVIEW heading to determine a
handicap to be used on the course where the Tournament is being
played.
Any other changes that need to be made to a golfer's record can
always be changed using the "Edit Golfer" option.
When all necessary information has been entered, you can elect to
<S>ave the record, Start<O>ver to correct any errors, or <Q>uit
without saving the record.
~~~
[2/5]
Add Team Record
───────────────
Use this option when sponsoring a tournament classified as a Team
event. This is used when the tournament format if for teams competing
against each other. A team can consist of from 2 to 6 members. One
individual on the team should be designated as the team leader so the
tournament committee can have a designated individual representing the
team.
You have the option of entering a handicap figure for each Team if
desired. If you enter a handicap figure here, this Team will be
handicapped using this value in ALL games recorded until changed
using the "Edit Team" option found under the TopMenu heading EDIT.
Any other changes that need to be made to a Team's record can
always be changed using the "Edit Team" option.
When all necessary information has been entered, you can elect to
<S>ave the record, Start<O>ver to correct any errors, or <Q>uit
without saving the record.
~~~
[2/7]
Add Game Record
───────────────
GAME RECORDS FOR THE FIRST DAY OF TOURNAMENT PLAY MUST ALWAYS
BE ENTERED BEFORE ANY GAMES ARE ENTERED FOR SUBSEQUENT DAYS.
When adding a Game Record, you must first select the tournament
the game will be used for. Next you will select the Team or
individual Golfer, depending on the tournament format, who played
the game being recorded.
You will have a choice of entering either a 9 or 18 hole game. No
other values are accepted here.
NOTE that all games entered for the selected tournament should be
be for either 9 or 18 holes. Do not enter both 9-hole and
18-hole games in the same tournament.
Enter the score for each hole. If the Team or Golfer has a
handicap, the Net Score is a result of subtracting the handicap
strokes from the Total (Gross) Score of the game.
Any other changes that need to be made to a Team's record can
always be changed using the "Edit Team" option.
When all necessary information has been entered, you can elect to
<S>ave the record, Start<O>ver to correct any errors, or <Q>uit
without saving the record.
[3/1]
Review Game Record
──────────────────
This option will allow the user to pull up any Game Record still
in the database for review. If changes to the scores need to be
made select the "Edit Game" option under the EDIT heading on the
TopMenu bar.
If changes need to be made, use the "Edit Game" option found under
the EDIT heading on the TopMenu bar.
~~~
[3/3]
Review Scores
─────────────
Selecting this option will allow the user to pick a tournament, if
more than 1 Tournament record is in the database, then output to
the screen, a list of all scores recorded for the selected tournament.
This procedure actually consists of several lists. First, a list of
ALL game scores associated with the selected Tournament are printed
in ascending order. If GolfTour finds there are 2 or more games per
Team/Golfer associated with the selected Tournament, it will print
a list of scores for the first game in ascending order, then a list
for the second game, then third game and so on, up through 5 games.
Depending on the number of Games on record, this procedure may take
a few seconds to wade through all the Game records and select only
those that are recorded for the selected tournament.
If this procedure appears to be taking a considerable amount of
time, you might remove some older Tournament records from the data-
base (see Remove Tournament under the UTILS heading at the TopMenu
bar) so GolfTour won't have to search through as many records when
performing a search.
~~~
[3/4]
Review Flights
──────────────
Selecting this option will allow the user to pick a tournament, if
more than 1 Tournament record is in the database, then output to
the screen, a list of all Flights with scores recorded for the
selected tournament. If only 1 Tournament record is stored in the
database, the compilation of this information begins immediately.
Depending on the number of Games on record, this procedure may take
a few minutes to wade through all the Game records and select only
those that belong to the selected tournament.
If you have a large Tournament with 100 or more Game records, this
will take several minutes (depends on the speed of your computer)
as GolfTour must check each Game record first to verify that it
actually belongs to the Tournament selected then for the score,
handicap if any, Team or Golfer name, Game number, etc.
If this procedure appears to be taking a considerable amount of
time, you might remove some older Tournament records from the data-
base (see Remove Tournament under the UTILS heading at the TopMenu
bar) so GolfTour won't have to search through as many records when
performing a search.
~~~
[3/6]
Review Golfer Lists
───────────────────
This options will provide you with a list of all golfers in the
database, sorted alphabetically. After the master list of all
golfers is displayed, a list of all the Men golfers in the data-
base, sorted alphabetically, is displayed followed by a list of
all Women golfers in the database, also sorted alphabetically.
~~~
[3/7]
Review Team List
────────────────
A list of all Teams in thew database, sorted alphabetically is
displayed when this option is selected.
~~~
[3/9]
Course Handicap
───────────────
This option will allow a Course Handicap (not to be confused with
a Handicap Index) to be determined for any golfer on any Course.
When using this option, you must know the Slope value of the Course,
the Handicap Index, and sex of the golfer.
If the Handicap Index is unknown, use GolfClub or GolfLog to
determine a golfer's Handicap Index. Both GolfClub and GolfLog
are available from RiverBend SoftWare.
~~~
[4/1]
Print Tournament Scores
───────────────────────
Compiles and prints a list, sorted by score in ascending order, of
all games recorded in the selected Tournament. This list will
show the scores of each game and should be posted after each play
is completed each day.
This procedure actually consists of several lists. First, a list of
all game scores associated with the selected Tournament are printed
in ascending order. If GolfTour finds there are 2 or more games per
Team/Golfer associated with the selected Tournament, it will print
a list of scores for the first game in ascending order, then a list
for the second game, then third game and so on, up through 5 games.
You may ask GolfTour to print from 1 to 99 copies of this listing.
This procedure requires a printer (dot matrix or Laser).
The printed list can be posted on bulletin boards, score boards, etc.
~~~
[4/3]
Print Flight Summary / Flight Reports
─────────────────────────────────────
A printer, either Dot Matrix or Laser, is required for this option.
Depending on the size of the database, this option may require 4 -5
minutes or longer to complete. It is important to keep the database
as small as possible by removing any old Tournament Records before
the next tournament begins.
This option will compile and print a sorted list of the selected
Tournaments Flights showing the scores in ascending order for each
Flight. This list can be posted at the end of each day so Teams and
Golfers can see where they stand in each Flight.
If you have a large Tournament with 100 or more Game records, this
will take several minutes (depends on the speed of your computer)
as GolfTour must check each Game record first to verify that it
actually belongs to the Tournament selected then for the score,
handicap if any, Team or Golfer name, Game number, etc.
The list will be printed a Flight-per-page showing the score, and
the Team/Golfer's name. A Flight Summary is also printed along
with the lists mentioned above.
Before selecting this option, ALL TEAMS and/or GOLFER RECORDS
MUST BE COMPLETED AND SAVED IN THE DATABASE.
WHEN ENTERING GAME RECORDS FOR A TOURNAMENT, BE SURE YOUR HAVE
ENTERED THEM IN THE ORDER (by date) THEY WERE PLAYED. In other
words, DO NOT enter a Game played on the first day of tournament
play after games played on the second or subsequent day have been
entered. Games can be entered in the order the score cards are
turned in by the Teams/Golfers just as long as ALL games for the
FIRST day have been entered BEFORE any games for additional days
are entered. If you need to change or correct information on a
Game Record, use the "Edit Game" option.
Flighting is based on the scores of games played the FIRST day of
the tournament play. In the event of extended play, just be sure
ALL scores for the FIRST game played by ALL Teams/Golfers have
been entered BEFORE entering a second game for any Team/Golfer.
Normally, games played the first day are entered at the end of
the first days play. The Flight Summary is then printed showing
the Teams/Golfers the Flight divisions.
These lists can be posted on bulletin boards, score boards, etc.
~~~
~~~
[4/6]
Print Golfer List
─────────────────
Print a list of all golfers in the database showing the golfer's
name along with the city and state.

Print Tournament Entry Forms
────────────────────────────
This option will print from 1 to 99 individual entry forms. You
must have a Tournament record entered in the database before the
entry form can be printed.
The form will contain information for each Team/Golfer and provide
addresses, telephone numbers, etc. so the team leader or individual
golfer can be contacted prior to the tournament if necessary. These
forms should be retained for a time after the Tournament is over as
a means of verifying that all fees, etc. have been paid in full.
Keeping these forms on file will provide the Tournament committee
with information (addresses) needed to send out flyers for the next
scheduled tournament.
These forms will be numbered in ascending order. You will be asked
to enter a number to begin the serial numbers with. If no number
is entered the forms will start with 101. You may enter numbers
from 1 to 5000.

Select Printer Port
───────────────────
GolfTour will use any of three Parallel printer ports however you
must tell GolfTour which port you want to use. After selecting a
port (1, 2, or 3), this will remain as the default until changed
again by the user.
You will be presented with a PickList showing the 3 available
printer ports. Select by moving the hi-lite bar to the port
of choice and pressing <Enter> or clicking the Mouse on the
desired port listing.
When GolfTour is run for the first time, Port #1 is set as the
default printer port and will remain as such unless changed by
using this option. Most computers are set for Parallel port #1
as the default printer port. If you already use port #1 there's
no need to use this option.
GolfTour uses Parallel Ports only. Serial printer ports are not
recognized or used by GolfTour at this time.

Select Date Format
──────────────────
GolfTour recognizes 2 types of date formats. These being the
standard format of MM-DD-YYYY and the military or european
format of DD-MM-YYYY.
You will be presented with a PickList showing the 2 available
date formats. Select by moving the hi-lite bar to the format
of choice and pressing <Enter> or clicking the Mouse on the
desired format.
After selecting a date format it's best if you remain with it
as GolfTour does some sorting based on the date. Once a date
format is selected, GolfTour will remember it and use it until
changed again by the user.
When GolfTour is started for the first time it sets the standard
MM-DD-YYYY as the default and will use it until changed by the
user. If you wish to continue using the standard format then
there's no need to use this option as it will remain the default
date format.

Remove Tournament Record
────────────────────────
Most of the capacities of GolfTour are limited only by available
conventional memory and the size of the disk, however leaving a
tournament record and its associated game records in the database
after they are no longer needed will certainly cause GolfTour to
require more memory when doing a search and slow down operations
in general. This option will remove the Tournament Record along
with ALL the Game Records associated with that Tournament. Team
and Golfer Records are not affected by this option as they can be
retained for other Tournaments.
A large Tournament will take take up considerable space on disk
along with requiring additional memory when doing searches, etc.
It's best to remove a Tournament record at some point in time
after it's over. There's no problem with retaining the Tournament
records for several months after completion, however, retaining
them for longer than necessary will only take up needed disk space
and require additional memory when doing searches, compiling and
printing reports for other Tournaments.
After removing a Tournament record, you should always use the
ReIndex DataBase option under the UTILS heading to tidy up the
database.

Tournament at which the game was played then select the game to be

will be adjusted for number of games played.
~~~
ReIndex DataBase
────────────────
Use this option to clean up the database. It should be used after
a Tournament has been completed and before the next Tournament is
started. It does not remove any records, rather it assures that
each record is in its proper place.
Note that if you have several Tournament records along with a lot
of Team and/or Golfer records in the database, this procedure can
take several minutes to complete as it must compare each Team record
against each Tournament and Game record then do the same with each
individual Golfer record.
■ This option should always be used after a Tournament has been
removed from the database.
