  1.         **    Tablat 3.0 - Guitar Tablature Utility    **

  4. Introduction:

  6.  Tablat is an easy-to-use utility for directly entering tablature into
  7.  ASCII text files. It was written by a guitarist, me, to be easy and  
  8.  fast to use.

  11. Installation:
  12.  
  13.  There is no special installation required. The only requisite is that 
  14.  the two .DAT files are in the same directory as the executable.
  15.  
  16.  This version of the Tablat program (TAB30SW) is shareware and may be 
  17.  distributed freely.

  19.  Limitations on shareware version:
  20.     - Load, Save, and Output|Append are inactive
  21.     - Output will only write one staff to a text file. 
  22.     - .DAT files contain only a trial list of chords

  25. User's Guide:
  26.  
  27.    1) Entering ASCII tablature.
  28.        
  29.          On the main Tablat screen, any number may be entered on the staves 
  30.          as can any of the standard ASCII tablature characters listed in the
  31.          following table:

  33.              t,h,p,b,r  -  Tap, Hammer, Pull-off, Bend, Release
  34.                    /,\  -  Slide up, Slide down
  35.                      ~  -  Vibrato 
  36.                      x  -  Mute string
  37.                      |  -  Measure line
  38.          
  39.          In addition, Pressing 'a' activates open ASCII mode which allows any 
  40.          typable character to be entered.

  42.    2) Control keys
  43.  
  44.       *Help*  
  45.         [F1] - Displays the first of three help screens.  
  46.         [F2] - Displays the ASCII tablature help screen
  47.         [F5] - Displays options screen. Changable options include chord
  48.                mode toggle, and selection of Chord Solver selection width 
  49.         
  50.       *Movement*  
  51.         Arrows - Move around the tab screen
  52.         [PGUP] - Move up one staff
  53.         [PGDN] - Move down one staff
  54.         [END] - Goto last character on current staff, or end of staff
  55.         [HOME] - Goto first character on current staff, or beginning of staff
  56.         [DEL] - Erase one character
  57.         [SPACE] - Erase one character and advance one space

  59.       *File*
  60.         [s] - Save work to .TBL file (Tablat readable)
  61.         [l] - Load previously saved work (.TBL only)
  62.         [o] - Output to ASCII text file. Append allows tabs to be added to
  63.               existing .TAB files
  64.  
  65.       *Tools*
  66.         [SHFT][c] - Chord Maker Utility. You can select a chord from the 
  67.                     database file to be automatically displayed. Choosing
  68.                     "ADD" from the selection screen will allow additions 
  69.                     to the database file. File is limited to 109 entries
  70.         [SHFT][s] - Chord Solver Utility. Attempts to match a selected area 
  71.                     of tablature to a database of chord formulas. For example:
  72.                     if the chord formula of the selected tab is 1-3-5 in the
  73.                     key of C then it will suggest "C" as a possible chord.
  74.               [c] - Activates chord mode. With this mode active, the cursor
  75.                     will not advance after an entry. This mode is useful when
  76.                     entering alot of chords.
