** Tablat 3.0 - Guitar Tablature Utility **
** Written by - Michael Mowry **
Introduction:
Tablat is an easy-to-use utility for directly entering tablature into
ASCII text files. It was written by a guitarist, me, to be easy and
fast to use.
Installation:
There is no special installation required. The only requisite is that
the two .DAT files are in the same directory as the executable.
This version of the Tablat program (TAB30SW) is shareware and may be
distributed freely.
Limitations on shareware version:
- Load, Save, and Output|Append are inactive
- Output will only write one staff to a text file.
- .DAT files contain only a trial list of chords
User's Guide:
1) Entering ASCII tablature.
On the main Tablat screen, any number may be entered on the staves
as can any of the standard ASCII tablature characters listed in the
following table:
t,h,p,b,r - Tap, Hammer, Pull-off, Bend, Release
/,\ - Slide up, Slide down
~ - Vibrato
x - Mute string
| - Measure line
In addition, Pressing 'a' activates open ASCII mode which allows any
typable character to be entered.
2) Control keys
*Help*
[F1] - Displays the first of three help screens.
[F2] - Displays the ASCII tablature help screen
[F5] - Displays options screen. Changable options include chord
mode toggle, and selection of Chord Solver selection width
*Movement*
Arrows - Move around the tab screen
[PGUP] - Move up one staff
[PGDN] - Move down one staff
[END] - Goto last character on current staff, or end of staff
[HOME] - Goto first character on current staff, or beginning of staff
[DEL] - Erase one character
[SPACE] - Erase one character and advance one space
*File*
[s] - Save work to .TBL file (Tablat readable)
[l] - Load previously saved work (.TBL only)
[o] - Output to ASCII text file. Append allows tabs to be added to
existing .TAB files
*Tools*
[SHFT][c] - Chord Maker Utility. You can select a chord from the
database file to be automatically displayed. Choosing
"ADD" from the selection screen will allow additions
to the database file. File is limited to 109 entries
[SHFT][s] - Chord Solver Utility. Attempts to match a selected area
of tablature to a database of chord formulas. For example:
if the chord formula of the selected tab is 1-3-5 in the
key of C then it will suggest "C" as a possible chord.
[c] - Activates chord mode. With this mode active, the cursor
will not advance after an entry. This mode is useful when
entering alot of chords.
I have attempted to make the program easy to use, so little documentation
should be necessary. If you have any questions or comments, please

Thank you for your interest and I hope you find this as useful as I do...
:-)
Note: As of August 1, the Windows version of Tablat is coming along smoothly
and I anticipate its release as shareware in early winter.
