  68. The package may also contain a "VENDINFO.DIZ" and/or an "EDDY.DOZ" file.
  69. These files are included solely to comply with the requirements of some
  70. vendors (e.g., certain CD-ROM producers), and as a courtesy to BBSs with
  71. software that works with these files.  They serve no useful purpose for
  72. most users, and contain no information that is not provided here or
  73. elsewhere in EDDY's documentation; they may be deleted if desired.

  75. In case of any conflict of terms, wording, meaning or possible differing
  76. interpretations between the contents of a VENDINFO.DIZ or EDDY.DOZ file
  77. and the contents of ANY other files in the EDDY package, those OTHER
  78. files are the authoritative version, and they shall prevail in case of
  79. dispute.

  85. EDDY needs the following:
  86.    -  IBM PC, one of its descendants, or close compatible
  87.    -  A monitor that can accommodate 25x80 text mode display
  88.    -  256K of available conventional memory
  89.    -  PC- or MS-DOS level 2.0 or later
  90.  
  91. EDDY does not need to be in its own directory, nor even in the PATH.
  92. It'll find its files as long as at least the following are in the same
  93. directory:  EDDY.COM, EDDY.AUX, EDDY.USE, EDDY.INI.  If you are REALLY
  94. tight on disk space, the only files that are ABSOLUTELY required are
  95. EDDY.COM and EDDY.AUX.

  97. One of the files in the package -- FILE_ID.DIZ -- may have the same name
  98. as a file from some other product, so you may want to put EDDY in its
  99. own directory, or copy "E*.*" rather than "*.*".  (But _PLEASE_ include
  100. FILE_ID.DIZ with any copies of EDDY that you pass along.  Thanks!)  If
  101. VENDINFO.DIZ and/or EDDY.DOZ is present, similar comments apply, but
  102. it's your choice whether to pass them along or not.

  104. INSTALLATION STEP 1: Copy the EDDY files into any directory.
  105.  
  106. INSTALLATION IS NOW COMPLETE!

  108. The simplest way to get acquainted with the program is to just type
  109. "EDDY" and [Enter].  Menus and context-sensitive HELP are available as
  110. needed.
  111.  
  112. The manual (EDDY.DOC) can be a bit overwhelming to the new user.  I
  113. suggest that you try the program for a while, referring only to specific
  114. parts of the manual when you need detailed info on some function or
  115. capability.  Then, after using the program for a while, give the manual
  116. a quick skim; I think you'll find it makes a lot more sense that way.

  118. If you want to print a copy of the manual, take a look at Section 1.2.3
  119. of EDDY.DOC first, particularly if you use A4-size paper.

  125. EDDY may be run from a DOS box, using the command line, once you have
  126. done the DOS Installation.  The steps listed below __ARE_NOT_REQUIRED__
  127. to run EDDY under Windows, but may be used if you want the interface to
  128. EDDY from Windows to be more direct.
  129.  
  130. For explanation purposes, assume EDDY will be installed in the
  131. C:\UTIL\EDDY directory.  If you've used a different directory, just
  132. substitute yours in steps 1, 7 and 9.  To install EDDY in Windows...
  133.  
  134. 1.  Copy the EDDY files to the C:\UTIL\EDDY (or whatever) directory.
  135. 2.  Choose the group you want EDDY in (click on any icon in that group).
  136. 3.  In Program Manager, click on "File", then "New", then "Program Item"
  137. 4.  Click on "OK".
  138. 5.  Type the program description ("EDit DirectorY", or "TWGDU!" or ???).
  139. 6.  Click on "Command Line".
  140. 7.  Type C:\UTIL\EDDY\EDDY.COM (or whatever\EDDY.COM).
  141. 8.  Click on "Working Directory".
  142. 9.  Type C:\UTIL\EDDY (or whatever).
  143. 10. Click on "Change Icon".  If you see a "no icons" message, click "OK"
  144. 11. Click on "Browse", and select the drive and directory where you have
  145.     installed EDDY.
  146. 12. Double click on "EDDY.ICO", then click on "OK".
  147. 13. Click on "OK" again.

  156. disclaimer of responsibility for anything that EDDY may or may not do.
  157. Please read that information carefully.  You use EDDY at your own risk.

  159. EDDY is shareware.  It is not free, and it is not in the public domain.
  160. The author receives NO COMPENSATION for his work unless you register the
  161. program, even if you paid someone for a shareware disk containing EDDY.
  162. If you find EDDY to be useful and continue to use it after a reasonable
  163. trial period, you should register your copy ("reasonable" means
  164. something on the order of 30 days trial use).
