For those of you have tried, without success, to setup an Invention Factory
Internet connection in Procomm Plus for Windows Version 3.0 (Procomm3), here
is a foolpoof step-by-step procedure that will get you up and running.
1. The first thing that you need to do is to modify the SUPERTCP.INI file
that Procomm3 placed in your Windows directory. Using the ascii text
editor of your choice, add the following two lines at the end of the
[PPP1] section of SUPERTCP.INI. Case is important, so type them exactly
as shown:
ProtCompr=1
AddrCntlCompr=1
2. Startup Procomm.
3. Select - Setup/Internet/Internet Connection - from the Procomm3 Task Bar.
4. Select - Add New Connection.
5. Click - Discard Previous Settings.... & then Click - Next.
6. Click - Modem Over a Telephone Line & then Click - Next.
7. Click - I Already Have an Account... & then Click - Next.
8. Click - Next - at the following screen.
9. Click - Use the PROCOMM PLUS Internet TCP/IP Stack & then Click - Next.
10. Enter - The Invention Factory - in the Service Provider Box.
11. In the access number boxes, enter the area code and telephone number
that you normally use to dial the Invention Factory. Viz. - 212-274-8932
for a 28.8K connection.
12. If no area code is required, select "Local", if an area code is required,
select "Long Distance". When you're done with this screen, Click - Next.
13. Click - Next - on the "Before you Begin Screen" - You're Ready.
14. Enter your Invention Factory First and Last Names in the User ID Box,
then enter your Invention Factory Password in the Password Box, then Click
Next to leave this screen.
15. Click - PPP or SLIP & then Click - Next. PPP is the preferred protocol,
because it is the fastest and most robust.
16. Click - Dynamic IP address, enter 199.183.47.65 in the Gateway Address box,
then Click Next to leave this screen. No other input is needed here.
17. Enter 199.183.47.130 in the Primary DNS Box & 199.183.47.131 in the
Secondary DNS box, then Click - Next.
18. Click - No, I don't wish to configure PROCOMM PLUS Internet Mail & News,
then Click - Next.
19. Click - Next - at the following two information screens.
20. Click - Next - at the following screen to dial the Invention Factory and
create your logon script.
21. Procomm will now dial the Invention Factory. When you are connected,
enter "n" at the "do you want graphics" prompt, then enter your first
and last names at the "First Name" prompt, then enter your Invention
Factory password at the "Password" prompt, press "Enter" at the Scan
Message base prompt. As soon as you see the next Invention Factory prompt,
Click - OK in the Procomm Aspect box, and your Invention Factory
connection will terminate.
22. Leave 0.0.0.0 in the Enter IP Address box and Click - OK.
23. If all goes well, you will receive a message that Procomm has successfully
created a Internet Connection Logon Script. If you don't receive that
message, your best bet is to repeat this entire procedure, so take your
time and do it right the first time thru.
24. Click - Finish - on the next screen
25. The next screen will come up showing the information that you typed in for
the Invention Factory Internet Connection. Click - OK, then exit Procomm
at the main screen.
26. Copy the enclosed "theinven.was" & "theinven.wax" files into your
PROWIN3/ASPECT subdirectory. Copy them over any files having the same
name. *** This Step is Very Important ***
27. Startup Procomm3 and select Setup/Internet/Internet Connection from the top
task bar. Check the name in the Logon Script box. If it isn't "theinven",
click the arrow at the right end of the box, and select "theinven" from the
listed scripts. Then Click - OK.
28. YOU'RE FINALLY DONE.
29. To Browse the Web, select Window/Connect to Internet from the Procomm3
upper task bar. Procomm3 will then use the script that you just created
to connect you to the Invention Factory in PPP or SLIP mode, depending on
your selection in Step 15. As soon as the script is done,
Click - Mode/Web Browser - and browse away.
