  119.      ===========
  120.  
  121.      The  Letterhead Kit  is a  business correspondence  assistant. It
  122.      includes customized-on-the-fly letterhead  templates, forms,  and
  123.      much more. It will retrieve your forms, letterheads, boilerplate,
  124.      fax cover sheets, and more, all done safely with no file names so
  125.      that you cannot accidentally  overwrite your important forms. The
  126.      Letterhead  Kit adds any of  30 special message  graphics to your
  127.      documents, including ten Money graphics (Final Notice!, Thank You
  128.      for  Your  Payment!, and  eight  more), ten  Cargo  graphics (1st
  129.      Class,  Do Not Bend, and  more), and ten  Office graphics (Draft,
  130.      Confidential, and more), or either of two scanned signatures. The
  131.      Letterhead Kit also provides assistance in building pages full of
  132.      labels  or business  cards, or  in adding  ZIP bar  codes  to USA
  133.      addresses.

  135.      1) Run the SETUP macro from its current location. For example, if
  136.      The  Letterhead Kit files are in c:\download, go to a WordPerfect
  137.      document screen, press Alt-F10, type 'c:\download\setup' (without
  138.      the quotes), and press ENTER. Follow the directions on-screen.
  139.  
  140.      2)  Start  The Letterhead  Kit's  main macro  EITHER  by pressing
  141.      Control-Shift-K, or by pressing Macro(Alt-F10), typing 'LTR'  (no
  142.      quotes here, either!), and pressing ENTER.

  144.      3)  Print  this manual  (rather  than  reading it  on-screen)  by
  145.      running  the PRINTDOC  batch  file from  the  DOS prompt  in  the
  146.      directory where the files are located.

  181.      you must purchase a copy of The Letterhead Kit-32 for US $20. A

  234.      in this release of The Letterhead Kit-32, version 7.0 for
  235.      Windows. If any are missing or if the sizes and dates do not
  236.      match that list, the package has been tampered with. Any
  237.      additional files are not part of The Letterhead Kit. Registered

  255.      Shareware distribution gives users a chance to try software
  256.      before buying it. If you try a Shareware program and continue
  257.      using it, you are legally required to register. With
  258.      registration, you get anything from the simple right to continue
  259.      using the software to an updated program with printed manual.

  401.      This version of The Letterhead Kit runs in Corel WordPerfect 7
  402.      for Windows 95 only. There are other editions for WordPerfect/Win
  403.      6.0/6.1, and for WP/DOS--see PRODUCTS.TXT for more information.
  404.      Compatibility with NEWER versions of WordPerfect cannot be
  405.      guaranteed, because future changes in the WordPerfect program may
  406.      disable features of The Letterhead Kit without notice. However,
  407.      educated best guesses as to future changes have been made, and
  408.      new upgrades will be released as needed to provide support for
  409.      future editions. Purchasers receive newsletter announcements of
  410.      updates. When in doubt, check the Science Translations home page
  411.      for news--see products.txt for web addresses.

  416.      Some features of earlier versions of The Letterhead Kit have been
  417.      changed to allow quick one-letter selections of all features.
  418.      Cargo, Money, and Autograph replace Shipping, Payment, and
  419.      Initials.

  421.      The Letterhead Kit now takes major advantage of the template
  422.      features of WordPerfect, and adds many new features:

  424.      Forms: Starts the WordPerfect template retrieval dialog box.
  425.           Thanks to template automation, The Letterhead Kit forms are
  426.           automatically customized with your name, address, telephone,
  427.           organization, and title, using information provided by
  428.           WordPerfect's autofill features. No template editing is
  429.           needed to have completely customized letterheads.

  431.      Boilerplate: Adds to the CURRENT document AT THE INSERTION POINT
  432.           the document file that you select from a special boilerplate
  433.           directory. (Not in trial edition)

  435.      ZIP: Autosearches the current page for a USA-style ZIP code, and
  436.           adds a PostNet bar code on a new line at the bottom of the
  437.           page, and offers to continue adding bar codes on every page,
  438.           if more pages exist. (Not in trial edition)

  440.      CardCopy: Automates the tiresome process of creating multiple
  441.           labels or business cards. (Not in trial edition)

  454.      Installation
  455.      ============
  456.  
  457.      If you are reading the LTRWIN.TXT file on-screen, you may print
  458.      it with the PRINTDOC.BAT batch file. (Don't print from
  459.      WordPerfect--it is formatted with page breaks for printing from
  460.      DOS.) You do not need to exit Windows--go to DOS by clicking on
  461.      the MS-DOS Prompt menu entry in the Task Bar, usually installed
  462.      in the Programs submenu. (Type EXIT when ready to return to
  463.      Windows 95.)

  465.      From the DOS prompt, log to the directory holding The Letterhead
  466.      Kit distribution files, usually found after setup in
  467.      c:\corel\office7\template\ltrkit, type PRINTDOC, and press ENTER.
  468.  
  469.      Setup
  470.      -----
  471.  
  472.      You MUST run the SETUP.WCM macro to install The Letterhead Kit--
  473.      it cannot be done manually. The SETUP macro does many things:
  474.  
  475.      1) It will create a 'ltrkit' subdirectory inside your template
  476.           directory for this instruction file, the message graphics,
  477.           and the scanned signatures.
  478.  
  479.      2) It will place the new templates in the 'ltrkit' directory, and
  480.           copy the primary letterheads ltr01.wpt and ltr02.wpt to your
  481.           template directory.
  482.  
  483.      3) It will copy the macros and configuration file to your macro
  484.           directory.
  485.  
  486.      4) It will create a 'boiler' subdirectory inside your template
  487.           directory for boilerplate files, and place the sample
  488.           boilerplate files there. (Not in trial edition)
  489.  
  490.      The SETUP macro will check your macro and template directories
  491.      for you, and recommend a location for the graphics and
  492.      instruction manual. If you have both a macro directory and a
  493.      supplemental macro directory, you will be able to choose between
  494.      them--no other locations are acceptable.

  496.      To install The Letterhead Kit files, press Macro (Alt-F10) from a
  497.      blank document screen in WPWin, type the path to the current
  498.      location of The Letterhead Kit files, SETUP and press ENTER. For
  499.      example, if the files are on a floppy in the "a" drive, then
  500.      press Macro (Alt-F10), type a:\setup and press ENTER.

  502.      Saving Hard Drive Space: The TXT files need not remain on your
  503.      hard disk once you have become comfortable with running the
  504.

  516.      To uninstall The Letterhead Kit, delete these files from your
  517.      hard drive:

  762.      It is a good idea to save your label format BEFORE you run
  763.      CardCopy on it. Why? When you want to update the label or card
  764.      later on, you can make any changes needed in the ONE copy of the
  765.      information on the label, re-save and then CardCopy it again to
  766.      print the updated cards or labels. That's much easier than
  767.      editing ten cards or thirty address labels.
  768.  
  769.      The 'CardCopy' button will do two different things depending on
  770.      when you push it. If you have NOT yet added a label code to your
  771.      layout, CardCopy will remind you, and open WordPerfect's label
  772.      selection dialog box. Select a label definition that matches your
  773.      label or card stock, and The Letterhead Kit will return you to
  774.      your document, where you should check that your text fits on one
  775.      label. Make any editing changes needed, and select the CardCopy
  776.      button again. Remember the Make-It-Fit feature of WordPerfect
  777.      when you create labels--it can make squeezing more onto a label
  778.      much easier.

  780.      When you select CardCopy and The Letterhead Kit finds a label
  781.      code in your document, it will ask you how many labels to create.
  782.      The Letterhead Kit will fill as many labels as you request. If
  783.      needed, hard page codes and an additional font code will be added
  784.

  796.           SUPERSPEED SHORTCUT FOR A FAST ZIP BAR CODE:
  797.           Control-Shift-I. Run the superspeed shortcut from document
  798.           screen. Starting the LTR main macro is NOT necessary!

  800.      The 'ZIP' button searches for a USA-style ZIP code on the bottom
  801.      line of your document, and then adds a PostNet bar code on a new
  802.      line at the bottom of the page. If The Letterhead Kit detects
  803.      that the current page is not the last page of the document, it
  804.      will ask permission to add bar codes to all the remaining pages
  805.      of the document.

  807.      If The Letterhead Kit has trouble finding a ZIP code, usually
  808.      because of extra formatting codes or non-number text below the
  809.      ZIP code, it will stop on the problem page so that you can
  810.      correct the address, if needed, or page down past it if the
  811.      address is to a non-USA address. Once past the problem address,
  812.      restart The Letterhead Kit, choose ZIP again, and the program
  813.      will continue adding ZIP bar codes, beginning on the current
  814.      page.

  816.  
  817.      Adjusting Configuration Options
  818.      ===============================
  819.  
  820.      There are four settings that you can change in The Letterhead Kit
  821.      by retrieving the file LTRKIT.INI from your macro directory and
  822.      editing it. For each setting, read the comments in the file
  823.      before making any changes. You can change:
  824.  
  825.      1) The height of the signature boxes. Adjust this setting, which
  826.      defaults to 7/10ths of an inch, if your signature is too large or
  827.      small after placement in your documents.
  828.  
  829.      2) The height of the message graphics boxes. Adjust this setting
  830.      (default 8/10ths of an inch) if you would like to change the size
  831.      that the message graphics appear on the page. Note that you can
  832.      only change the height of the boxes; WordPerfect auto-scales the
  833.      width to match the shape of the graphics file.
  834.  
  835.  
  836.      3) The primary letterhead name. This is the name of the template
  837.      to retrieve when you click the 'Letter' button, initially
  838.      'ltr01.wpt'. The full path to the file must be included, but you
  839.

  859.      file manually. Here's how: Press Macro (Alt-F10), type
  860.      'ltrkit.ini' (without the quotes), and press ENTER. Nothing will
  861.      appear to happen--that's O.K.

  909.      Templates can hold any document that you need to re-use and
  910.      customize. A template is just a document with paired bookmarks
  911.      added in a simple format that tells WordPerfect to run a special
  912.      macro during retrieval that will ask for the text items to place
  913.      inside each pair of bookmarks and then leave the new document on-
  914.      screen for additional editing, with no file name assigned so that
  915.      the new file cannot accidentally replace the original form.
  916.  
  917.      A handy feature of templates in WordPerfect is the Address Book,
  918.      which can store name, address, and phone/fax/account number
  919.      information for people you contact frequently.
  920.  
  921.      Learning how to edit and create templates is just learning how to
  922.      position the bookmarks within an otherwise normal document. That
  923.      process is nearly unchanged from version 6.1 to 7.0 of
  924.      WordPerfect, but templates created in 6x must be recompiled in
  925.      7.0 before using--see page 10 for conversion instructions.
  926.  
  927.      The WP7 Reference manual has a section on 'Templates' beginning
  928.      on page 476 (in the US English edition).
  929.  
  930.      The basic steps for CREATING a template in WordPerfect are:
  931.  
  932.      1) Choose File, New, Options, New Template. A blank document and
  933.           the Templates power bar will appear.
  934.  
  935.      2) Design your form normally.
  936.  
  937.      3) Click the 'Build Prompts' button. For each item that the
  938.           template should prompt the user, click on 'Add' and type in
  939.           a label for the prompt, like 'To' or 'From'. Click on the
  940.           document where the prompt should be, and then click the
  941.           'Paste' button. Click 'OK' when done.
  942.  
  943.      4) Click on 'Exit Template', answer 'Yes' to the 'Save changes to
  944.           template?' question, and enter a description, an eight-
  945.           character file name, and select a template group (directory)
  946.           to place the template in. Click on 'OK' when done.
  947.  
  948.      EDITING a template follows similar steps, but start by choosing
  949.      File, New, highlighting the template to edit, and then choosing
  950.      Options, Edit.

  961.      There are several ways to create a FAX cover page. You can select
  962.      one of the pre-built FAX cover sheets, or you can create a fax
  963.      information box, save it in the 'boiler' directory, and add it to
  964.      your letterhead. This second method is preferable if you
  965.      frequently update contact information on your letterhead. If you
  966.      prefer a fancier fax cover, create and save it as a complete page
  967.      in one of your template directories, after using your letterhead
  968.      as a starting point.
  969.  
  970.      When designing FAX covers, remember these points:
  971.  
  972.      Gray graphics take much longer to transmit than black graphics.
  973.      Lines, boxes, and shading all increase transmission time. For
  974.      local faxes, go wild. For long distance faxes, you may want to
  975.      save toll charges by creating an alternate fax cover of a simpler
  976.      design.
  977.  
  978.      For the message text of your fax, select a font that is slightly
  979.      larger than your usual selection. If you choose a 13 point
  980.      typeface, it will usually remain readable even if the fax is sent
  981.      at standard resolution. Look closely at the lower case I, L, and
  982.      the number 1, and make sure that they are easily distinguishable
  983.      from each other after faxing.

  1014.      Trouble Shooter's Guide--The Letterhead Kit
  1015.      ===========================================

  1017.      1) "The Control-Shift-K Shortcut key doesn't start The Letterhead
  1018.      Kit, or the Control-Shift-I key doesn't run the ZIP feature."
  1019.  
  1020.      The macro CTRLSFTK.WCM is automatically run by WordPerfect when
  1021.      you press Control-Shift-K, but ONLY if your present keyboard
  1022.      definition does not assign that key to some other function. In
  1023.      other words, keyboard definitions override macro files on-disk.
  1024.      The keystroke combinations Control-Shift-K and Ctrl-Shift-I are
  1025.      not in use in WP/Win 7's default configuration, but Ctrl-Shift-L
  1026.      is, and that's why the main shortcut changed in this version of
  1027.      The Letterhead Kit.
  1028.  
  1029.      You may either (1) edit your keyboard definition so that it does
  1030.      not block the Control-Shift keystroke, OR (2) rename CTRLSFTK.WCM
  1031.      to use another keystroke combination, by first finding an
  1032.      available keystroke combination that uses the Control-Shift-
  1033.      Letter pattern, and then renaming the CTRLSFTK.WCM file to, for
  1034.      example, CTRLSFTE.WCM to use as Control-Shift-E. Letters
  1035.      available in the default setup (US English edition) of WPWin7 are
  1036.      Control-Shift E, G, I, J, K, M, T, U, W, X, and Y.
  1037.  
  1038.      2) "My templates work properly, but display with bizarre font
  1039.      choices."
  1040.  
  1041.      The fonts used in The Letterhead Kit's templates and forms were
  1042.      chosen from the fonts installed as part of WordPerfect's
  1043.      selection of TrueType fonts. If you did not install those fonts,
  1044.      then both The Letterhead Kit's templates and the WordPerfect
  1045.      shipping templates may display and print with odd font choices.
  1046.      WordPerfect will automatically attempt to substitute fonts of
  1047.      similar types, but its lookup table of font changes is limited,
  1048.      and may select a font that is truly odd, like a Dingbat or Greek
  1049.      font as a substitute for BrushScript.
  1050.  
  1051.      To fix these problems, either install the WordPerfect shipping
  1052.      fonts, or edit the templates you use regularly, finding each
  1053.      typeface selection, and add selections from your own installed
  1054.      font list.
  1055.  
  1056.      3) "I'm stuck! I need a custom template and some forms, and I've
  1057.      gotten far enough to know that I've reached my limits!"
