K1 Mini MIDI Librarian
Version 2.0
by Gary Maddox
==========================
The K1 Mini MIDI Librarian is a "shareware" system to help manage patch
bank data from the Kawai K1/K1m/K1r digital synthesizer through the use of
MIDI. It supports Single and and Multi patch banks. Patch banks can be
either "Internal" or "External" through the use of an optional RAM card.
Most generic SYSEX dump files are supported, such as MIDIEX. The K1 Mini
MIDI Librarian also supports a format called "All-Data". All-Data files
contain the patch banks for both Single banks and the one Multi bank into a
single file. Since Multi banks are dependant on the two Single banks,
All-Data files make a very convienient way to organize your "sounds".
Using the Librarian Menus
-------------------------
The system commands are accessed from menus through the use of a
mouse or standard cursor keys. Both Microsoft and Logitech Mice
will work with version 2.0 of K1 MML. The first letter of each
option or file name will also work.
File Naming Convention in Version 2.0
-------------------------------------
The Quick select of K1 SysEx files requires that all files be
named with an extension of "K1". When receiving dumps, it is not
necessary to include the extension, K1 in the file name.
Using the Librarian from the DOS command line
---------------------------------------------
The system can also be used to Send patch data to the K1 from the DOS
command line. This is a very fast and handy method to exchange K1 patch banks.
In fact, the K1 Mini MIDI Librarian was designed to support the sending of
most generic SYSEX files, reguardless of the synthesizer. This does not
mean that Yamaha TX81Z banks can be translated to the K1. It does mean that
you can send new patch data to your K1 and up to seven other MIDI
synthesizers at the same time. To use the K1 Mini MIDI Librarian from the
DOS command line, type:
K1LIB S "filename1" "filename2" ... "filename8"
To send a K1 patch file named, "CARD1.K1", type:
K1LIB S CARD1.K1
To send patch files to, say for example, your K1, TX81Z, and TX7, type:
K1LIB S CARD1.K1 TX81Z.BNK TX7.BNK
Registering your copy of K1 Mini MIDI Librarian
-----------------------------------------------
This program is NOT public domain. It was copyrighted in 1989 by Gary Maddox.
It is offered to you as "shareware". In other words, you are free to copy it
and distribute it to your friends, BBS's etc... You may sample this program
for a reasonable time and if you find it to be usefull, please send $25 (or
any amount) to the author to register as an authorized user. Registered users
will receive a credit towards the purchase of the K1 Mini MIDI Editor. Your
honesty is very important to the future of shareware MIDI software. Many
people say that music software can't be successful as shareware. Like many
music software "demo" programs, I could have quite easily disabled the Save
and Receive functions, rendering it unusable. I could have also "time
bombed" it to quit working after so many uses or after a certain date. I
chose not to do this because I believe in shareware and want to see it
thrive in music software.
