MIDI AND SOUND CARDS
Play It By Ear supports the following MIDI and
sound-enhancing hardware:
* 100% MPU-401 compatible MIDI cards
* AdLib Music Synthesizer Card
* Creative Lab's Sound Blaster card
(Click the down arrow for more.)
Play It By Ear does not require any special
installation procedures for your MIDI or sound-
enhancing hardware. As long as you have
installed and tested your card according to the
manufacturer's specifications, Play It By Ear
automatically detects the card.
You can turn this auto-detect off with the Use
Internal Speaker option. This is helpful if you
have a MIDI card installed, but do not have your
controller, synthesizer, or amplifier available.
(Click the down arrow for more.)
In the case of the Sound Blaster card, you must
simply run the program from the DOS prompt and
specify the "S" command line option: EAR S.
For the Adlib card you need to make sure that
you have installed the SOUND.COM driver that
is provided with the card.
(Click the down arrow for more.)
Some MIDI keyboards send abbreviated note
commands immediately after power up or after
a program change is issued. If Play It By Ear
is failing to recognize your instrument then
start an exercise and cycle power on your
instrument or issue a program change while the
program is waiting for your response.
(Click the down arrow for more.)
CGA MONITORS
Due to the low resolution of CGA display
adapters, the current exercise window and the
current options window do not appear on the
screen. To open the current exercise window,
click the exercise name at the top of the
screen. For more information, see Appendix B
in the manual.
