Welcome to the Demo of AppMaker™, Your Assistant Programmer
AppMaker is a programming tool that makes it faster and easier to make a Macintosh application — not just the user interface, but also the functional code. AppMaker saves development time and cuts drudgery by letting you create menus, windows, dialogs, and their contents just by clicking and dragging to arrange what you want on the screen. You also point and click to declare data structures and to connect UI items to data items. With one command, AppMaker automatically generates the source code for your design. AppMaker generates code and resources for C, C++, Pascal, and PowerPlant. AppMaker also supports the OOFILE object I/O library and the ToolsPlus library.
This folder contains several files and folders in addition to this Read Me First document: AppMaker, AppMaker Prefs, AppMaker Interface, AMImporter, Stationery, Languages, Documentation, and Examples.
AppMaker is a fully functioning version of AppMaker with the limitation that it can't save files, and the generated code can't be compiled or linked because the library routines that come with the full AppMaker application are not included. It will request a registration number which is not needed for the Demo version. Just click Cancel.
The AppMaker Prefs and AppMaker Interface files are files needed to run AppMaker. The AMImporter file instructs AppMaker when Importing from existing resource files.
The Stationery file lets you easily create a new AppMaker document with standard contents including Apple, File, and Edit menus, a Main Window, etc.
The Languages folder contains modules for many of the languages that AppMaker currently supports. When you Generate code you choose a language from this folder.
The Documentation is in html format. You will need (and almost certainly have) a browser such as Netscape Navigator to read these files. If you read nothing else, we strongly recommend that you read the Quick Tour.
The Examples folder contains several example AppMaker documents. It also contains a folder of generated code and pre-built applications using PowerPlant, C, C++, and ToolsPlus. To save space on the archive we have omitted PPC versions of these applications. AppMaker and the pre-built examples will run on either 68K or PPC machines.
These examples show many of the user interface elements you can create and arrange in AppMaker. They were created in just a few minutes of pointing and clicking. AppMaker then generated complete, ready-to-run source code that was compiled and linked with AppMaker library routines. By exploring these examples, you'll see many of the user interface elements you can create in AppMaker quickly and intuitively without any programming. The programmer has only to program the functions behind the user interface, not the menus, scroll bars, buttons, and other visible elements.
All of these demo files can be copied and used by you or others to evaluate the AppMaker application.
This demo was tested with a Beta version of CodeWarrior Pro 5. If the release version requires any changes, they will be posted on our web site. Newer versions of AppMaker are released on CD approximately twice a year. Between CDs we often post minor updates to the web site.
