===== NEW LOOK FOR BITS? =====
I imagine there are those reading this now who are either impressed or upset.
This version of "bits" includes a new masthead created with the IBM extended
character set. After some inquiries and responses on the BITS echo, I decided
to try it out and see how it works. If it causes problems for you please
let me know. If there are alot of complaints then I will revert to the old
format, or perhaps make available a reformatting program that strips/replaces
the extended characters. In any event I feel that the new format will look
better and provide a new "feel" for the publication. The bad news is: we still
can't do a swimsuit issue!
Thank you all for the many commitments for articles. I have a feeling that
the May issue will be packed with some very good writing. April is still
a little sparse, but I think we are on the way to building a better "bits."
Thanks for your support.

RANDOM THOUGHTS BY ROD BOWMAN
Hopefully I will be able to address some of the issue of the network
here in. So, if you guys will ask me some questions, I will do my
best to answer them from you! You can send me a NetMail Message or
leave them in the RBBSBITS EchoMail Conference.
Everything written in here is totally by random thought. I will not
be going back through to proof read what I have typed. So, please,
no flames on spelling or punctuation!
I think a good topic for this month is:
Mail Distribution -- An Update (Continued)
==========================================
MAIL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
========================
DISTRIBUTION HOURS
------------------
o Available for In-Coming Calls:
24 hours a day 7 Days per week
o WATS Outdial Schedule:
Daily
-----
22:00 - 24:00 1st Poll
04:00 - 06:00 2nd Poll
Saturday and Sunday
-------------------

These times ARE CALIFORNIA TIME!!!!
Please adjust for YOUR OWN TIME ZONE!!!!
Please schedule your EVENTS and Control Files to only
dial out to the Mail Distribution System during the times
other than when I am trying to dial out! Also, 24 hours a
day does not mean you can poll 20 times a day ... please
limit your polls to no more than 3 times a day (unless
other arrangements are made).
WATS ACCESS
-----------
For those of you who do not access the Mail Distribution
System through the WATS Line ---- I need your donations.
It costs me money to pick up the mail from the FidoNet
BackBone and then send them on to you.
ECHOMAIL TRAFFIC REPORT
-----------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
<< STATS are not available at this time due to a damaged data file and >>
<< it will have to be corrected before the program can run through it. >>

DUPES
=====
Please everyone ... double check all of your nodes to insure
that someone is not sending/receiving EchoMail Conferences from
us and then sending them to someone in FidoNet (or any other Net
for that matter)!
AREAFIX (AutoEcho)
==================
AreaFix is fully implemented. Please send ALL of your EchoMail
additions or changes to Node #8:8/0 and address them to either
AREAFIX or AUTOECHO and be sure to put in your proper PASSWORD
in the Subject Field.
All changes to your EchoMail Conferences will be reviewed before
processing to insure proper use of the EchoMail Conferences.
PASSWORDS
=========
Everyone should be communicating with the Mail Distribution
System with a PASSWORD SESSION. If you are not, please, lets get
this feature turned on before any problems start happening. If
you need help or more information, let me know and I will try
and help.
ZONEGATE WITH FIDONET
=====================
Nothing new to report.
PIZZA GET-TOGETHER
==================
My next out of town business trip will be in the month of May to
Kansas City, Missouri. (It will probably be the second week ...
but not sure yet.) Are there any RBBS-NET Members close to this
area? Maybe we can have a Get-Together for some pizza and beer
in this area.
OUTAGE REPORT
=============
There are no outages to report for the mouth of March.
BACK-UP PROCEDURES
==================
I am still working on a Questionnaire for everyone to fill out.
This Questionnaire will be used to help design a more efficient
Topology as well as a documented Back-Up Topology Plan and
documented Back-Up Procedures. I hope to have this completed
during the month of February.
CLOSING
=======
I guess that is it for this mouth! It sure looks like a lot
with the EchoMail Traffic Report in there ... but I felt this
update was all needed.
Enjoy ...
