RBBS-in-a-Box CD-ROM
Welcome to the world of RBBS-PC! As a Sysop (System Operator)
I am sure you will share many of the same positive experiences that
I and other Sysops have enjoyed since first setting up RBBS. In
addition to the many hours of enjoyment it has provided as a hobby,
I can honestly say that the friends I have met through RBBS-PC are
some of the best friends life can provide. Many of those who I
count as my closest friends today are friends I have met through my
bulletin board.
Be sure to review the accompanying documentation. If the
booklet is not handy, the information can be found in the following
files:
README.TXT This text file.
FORWARD.TXT A note from Tom Mack, co-author and copyright
holder of RBBS-PC.
INSTALL.TXT Instructions for the installation and setup of
your RBBS-in-a-Box bulletin board, as well a
couple of trouble-shooting tips.
RUNNING.TXT Some basic information about the operation of
your RBBS-in-a-Box system.
HISTORY.TXT History of RBBS-PC of Chicago, home of the
RBBS-in-a-Box CD-ROM!
ACKNWLDG.TXT Acknowledgments for those who have made all of
this possible.

that will allow you to search the RBBS-In-A-
Box file listings and view, copy or extract
them.
CDCOPY.TXT Documentation for CDCOPY, a handy utility to
quickly locate and copy files from your
RBBS-in-a-Box CD-ROM.

------------>>>> ABOUT RBBS-IN-A-BOX <<<<------------
About the collection: This CD-ROM represents the fruits of
seven years of daily work as a Sysop. Literally thousands of hours
have gone into maintaining the BBS as well as tracking and caring
for the files you find permenantly etched on this CD-ROM. This
disc, with a collection of over 15,000 file entries, represents
over 100,000 individual files which, if extracted from their
respective ZIP files would occupy over 1.4 Gigabytes of space!!
And you have it all at your fingertips! The process of organizing,
duplicate file checking and prepartion for CD-ROM production for just
this one update took over 400 man hours to complete. We hope you
like the results.
About the layout: The files are organized alphabetically.
The files are distributed across 61 subdirectories named with the
first four characters of the last file in that directory. Thus,
the file POSTER.ZIP would be in the POOL subdirectory, since
alphabetically it falls between PHON and POOL. While there are
umpteen possible ways to structure a CD-ROM, we felt this was as
reasonable as any others we considered. For those running BBS
systems other than RBBS, there is a FILES.BBS file list in each
subdirectory.
About GIF files: The GIF format for PC graphics has become
popular over the past few years and many GIF files are sent to
RBBS-PC of Chicago every week. The problem is that there is seldom
accompanying documentation providing artist and copyright
information. Unfortunately, there has been wholesale copying of
materials from all forms of magazines without consideration of who
owns the rights to what. For this reason we have NOT included GIF
files on this disc. If someone wants to take the legal risk of a
copyright infringement case (statutory damages can exceed $10,000
per violation), feel free to add all the GIFs you want to your
collection!
Enjoy!
