AmiBench Offline Browser - Prerelease version 1.21
Important notes:
- This program requires MUI v3.8 with the following custom classes:
BetterBalance.mcc v11.2 (included in AmiBench/Libs/mui/ )
NList.mcc v19.97
NListview.mcc v19.62
NFloattext.mcc v19.46
These are avilable on Aminet, or you can find the latest versions via
TUMULT at www.amiga.dk/tumult/
- If you want to use the data file update facility you will also require a
bsdsocket compatible TCP stack like AmiTCP or Miami.
- OpenURL 3 is required for viewing websites and sending emails using any
mailer other than YAM.
- You do not need to copy the 'twflists.library' file from the AmiBench/Libs/
directory into your LIBS: assign. It will not affect the operation of the
program if you do, but it will clutter up your LIBS: drawer.
Notes on usage:
- The interface should (I hope) be self-explanitory. The "for sale" and
"wanted" pages operate in exactly the same way, with advertisements split
into their country of origin to simplify browsing. The lists can be sorted
on any column and in either direction (ascending or descending) by
clicking on the column titles - an arrow indicates the sort column and
direction.
- In order to use the download facility you must send your TCP stack online
and then click on the Update Data Files button on the General page. A
window will open displaying the overall download status, along with the
status of each of the client tasks. You can cancel the download at any
time via the Abort Download button. If any errors are encountered the
partially downloaded files will be removed and replaced with your old
data files.
- You can use either YAM or OpenURL to send messages to posters of adverts,
or to companies listed in the directory. By default OpenURL is used to
direct the email to your web browser or email package. If you set the
"Send emails" cycle gadget to "direct to YAM" and fill in the command
which will launch YAM if it is not loaded, then all emails will be
created in YAM without going through OpenURL.
IMPORTANT NOTE: from version 1.11 onwards all email packages are supported
via OpenURL 3. Direct support for YAM has been retained due to problems
passing subjects containing spaces to YAM via OpenURL 3, if you use YAM
I would strongly recommend using the "direct to YAM" option.
[Thanks to Neil for pointing out that my comments about THOR were utter
rubbish without shouting ;) ]
- Each advert in the For Sale or Wanted lists has a 'read' status associated
with it (I've borrowed the icons from YAM so we may want to change them
before a distribution). The status is saved when you quit the program
and, predicatbly, loaded when you start it again. If the status files
(ads.index and wanted.index) are missing then all entries default to
"unread".
