Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer
Version 3.00
Atari ST & compatibile unofficial version
Here is first unofficial version of POV-Ray 3.0 ported to TOS & GEM (!)
It has all features of plain POV and also capability of displaing image in
GEM window while rendering. there are supported all bitplan resolutiions
(2/4/16/256 colors) and Falcon HiColor as well. GEM interface supports on-line
Floyd-Steinberg dithering (also random dither in HiColor). Displaing and
dithering based on Unix Xwindows version.
This program requires TOS2GEM.PRG and ENHANCER.PRG to be installed on the
system. Both are included in the package. You may jus copy them to auto folder.
However ENHANCER is not needed if NVDI 2.5 or higher is installed in your
system. You can read about both utils if you know German language .
POV-Ray is freeware. Please read POVLEGAL.DOC & POVRAY.DOC & enjoy.
Standard disclaimer (no warranty...) is also aplicable to this package. You
should read DISCLAIMER section in POVLEGAL.DOC
Current GUI interface version 0.02 beta from 18.11.96 (however works quite
properly).
Known bugs:
- This one should be improoved in 0.02 (I haven't tested it):
When POV-Ray ends its job it needs Enter to be pressed. Then, in multitasking
environment, you *have* to press the Enter before you do anything else.
Even if POV-Ray runs in background. Its due to behaviour of TOS2GEM -
I am not able to switch off standard input grabbing.
- Sometimes window refresh doesn't work propery (but very rarely).
- TOS console is not updated too quickly in some cases.
- With ENHANCER 1.0 sometimes you may have some problems with mouse movements
- its due to bug in ENHANCER :(
- Floyd-Steinberg dithering aghoritm results in too gray colors when colors
are bright. If you know some good dithering alghoritm please let me know.
If you like my job (the GUI, *not* the POV-Ray ;), if you find any bugs or have
any ideas, please feel free write to me. In bug case you are welcome to attach
short info about your system.
