Labels:text | screenshot | font OCR: Creative. Intuitive. New. Art Effect 2 The Ultimate Graphics Program. Version 2.5 NEW IN VERSION 2.5.1 IMPORTANT (Installation) To start the installation you will need the first disk of your old ArtEffect2 distribution. IMPORTANT (Installation, files from CDROM or Internet) When you got these files from the Internet or a CDROM, please format a new disk with FastFile system and name it "ArtEffect2_Update2.5". Now copy all files of this archiv onto it and start the installation script that is now on that disk. To start the installation you will need the first disk of your old ArtEffect2 distribution. To update (patch) the main program, please start the script "AEZ_Patch3" which you will find in the drawer with the same mame. IMPORTANT (Locale) If you are using a non-English version of ArtEffect (e.g. French, Italian, Swedish) and some requesters (e.g. the one during initialisation) are looking strange, then your locale is not up-to-date. Please go to arteffect:catalogs and rename the catalog of your used language. Then the English ones are used, which are always up-to-date. IMPORTANT (General) 24-bit art programs like ArtEffect2 will need a lot of ram. The amount depends on the size of the picture and also on certain processes like layers, undo, resize and some effects. ArtEffect2 needs about 2-5 times the RAM of the picture. A picture of the size 800x600 in 24-bit needs about 1,5 MB RAM. ArtEffect2 will need about 3 to 7,5 MB RAM to do all operations. Operations like expanding a picture will need a lot of RAM, so they might use the Virtual Memory and swap parts of the picture to your hard disk. These actions might slow down the speed of ArtEffect. Changes of version 2.5.1 - Improved and accelerated UMEM system. This also includes the Undo. - Bugfix on PNG module - Bugfixes on some filters: Blur, Laplace, Miniumu, Maximum Mirror, Polar, Mosaic HINTS on UMEM You cannot switch off the VMEM system, but you can prevent its usage. Normally you should not do this and we only recommand it when you have more than 32 MB of RAM. Then do the follwing steps: - itch off ASYNC I/O - set MIN SWAPFILE to 0 or 5 MB - set MAX SWAPFILE to the value of your FastRAM after starting ArtEffect minus 1 MB There are some more hints in the HINT area below. NEW IN VERSION 2.5 All new features and changes of ArtEffect are described in a document you can find in the DOCS drawer. There is also a guide file that describes the new ARexx port. HINTS When ArtEffect2 often uses the swapfile on your hard disk you should consider an optimisation. It would be best to have a * * separate Partition for the ArtEffect2 swapfile. This partition → should have a a block size of 32K (instead of 512Byte). You will * find this option in HDTOOLBOX at "Advanced Options", item "Change", → "File System Block Size". * Please reduce the amount of Buffers to 4 (default: 30), because * otherwise your system will reserve 1MB for the buffers!!! * When you do not want to do these changes, you should set the value for MAX and MIN SWAPFILE to the same value and defragmentate your * hard drive (e.g. with REORG). * * We recommand to increase the amount of the swapfile to 32 MB. You * will find this at the menu "settings/program", then choose the page → "UMEM". The size of the swapfile is the last entry of this page. * The VMEM option "max. Size" sets the amount of RAM ArtEffect will use for its cache. This RAM can not be used for e.g. loading a picture. So if you get an "Out of memory" during loading you should have a look at this setting. * In case ArtEffect should not start correctly, please delete all * files of the drawer "ArtEffect:Settings". * In the case of a black window while loading a pictures or after * operations, this means that there is not enough memory for this * operation. In some case a reboot of the Amiga fixes this. * When ArtEffect stops working during initialsation of the Plug Ins * (the start picture is still open) then the current loaded Plug In * does not work with ArtEffect 2.0. Please delete this one, because * the PlugIns of ArtEffect 1.x will not work with 2.x. * If ArtEffect is getting slower and slower while working on a picture, * please have a look at the Undo levels. Please set the value to 2 - 5, * because "unlimited undo" might make the system slow. * When you are using HAM8 mode there might be some refresh problems and your picture will not look right. In this case you should resize the window a bit. This will cause a redraw of the graphic. * If you are loading an TIF picture and get a black window, then this picture is of a TIF type that ArtEffect does not support. If you have a TIF datatype you can use this one instead of the internal loader, but you have to remove the file TIFF.pss from the drawer ARTEFFECT: PLUGINS first. INSTALLATION The installation of ArtEffect is simple as can be. Please double-click on the icon "Instal1-2-HD-English" and read the instructions of the script. After the installation there must be an ASSIGN like the following: ASSIGN ArtEffect: path_to_your_ArtEffect_drawer in your User-Startup or your Startup-Sequence in S:. If ArtEffect is not running, please check this. The installation will also copy the Wizard.Library to your system if it is not already there. Please keep in mind that AE requires the following system: - AmigaOS 3.0 - ECS or AGA system or CyberGraphX software (recommended) - hard disk - at least 8 MB FastRAM, 16 MB FastRAM are recommended SUPPORT You will get all news and information from your local distributor or directly form us.
