FC is a 'contact centric' system; in other words your Contact, your Customer is seen as the 'center', the heart, of all information; normally you 'edit file \JOHN&CO\LASTOFFER.DOC' in FA you edit the offer that is in the John & Co. folder contained in the Business Contacts Archive Area.
That may seem trivial but this different way to look at the problem give a substantial improvement to your productivity.
Imagine now to be in Your office; a call from John Smith of the John & Co. reach you, he's asking for a quote for.. .
Normally you: start your WP; Search (and may be painful) if there is an old contract or if you agreed to special conditions for him; start your PIMS and search his address; update his history file; in the WP you write the quote continuously looking to your price book; print and file the new document; send the offer.
With FC you just search for John Smith or for the Smith & Co., and ALL the information on this firm are automatically displayed to You, from FC you start your WP; You write your offer looking at the price book in FC; from it you file your new offer, print a label, and finally You backup all your information.
Easier.
^^2^^Lets now give a look at FC.
^^3^^This is the main screen as it appears when you first start FC; it is divided in two main areas:
^^4^^The main list that in this case contains Your contacts.
^^5^^The document or 'child' list with all the documents contained in your contact folder.
^^6^^The document list is updated every time You select a new contact.
^^7^^This contact contains:
4 agenda items;
an external document (an offer)
A note (the minutes of last meeting)
Another contact (Black K Ross)
^^8^^You may also open an archive or 'father' list it shows in which archive(s) Your 'contact' (or whatever else) is contained.
^^9^^In this case Mr. John Smith works for ... .
^^10^^It is very easy to create a new document; just click over this icon.
^^11^^To create a document in the current folder click over one of these icons.
^^12^^In this case we create a new note for this contact.
^^13^^See as it appears on the child list
^^14^^To modify a document open it with a double click.
^^15^^If, as in this case, the document is an external one select ok; FC will call Write (or...) for you.
^^16^^You may modify and then quit
^^17^^You may also import a document from the File Manager; just drag it on the main list (it is created stand alone)
^^18^^Or in the child list (it is created as a child of the document that is currently selected)
^^19^^It is possible to insert a document in many different folders; just drag it to the new folder.
^^20^^See as the note appears also in the Blake child list
^^21^^All the information are contained in areas; the one we are seeing is the business contact area, we may switch to the personal contact area.
^^22^^Or we may decide to see all areas at the same time
^^23^^As it is now
^^24^^Documents may be copied from one area to another.
^^25^^Lets go back to the business Area
^^26^^To delete a document, or a group of document, just select them then press the DEL key
^^27^^When you delete a document it is kept in a special area till you clean the DB and may be retrieved later on.
^^28^^You may quickly glance at the content of the current record using the summary window.
^^29^^It shows just the most important info for the selected record.
^^30^^You may select a subset of your data using the selection module. P.e. only the contacts living in NY.
^^31^^Query may spawn multiple data files. P.e. the contacts from NY that have been contacted after the 12 Feb 95.
^^32^^Query may be saved
^^33^^And retrieved
^^34^^You may also select a subset of the DB just highlighting with the mouse the records you need and the pressing the selection button.
^^35^^To print a report use the selection module to choose the record you want the report for.
^^36^^Then select the report you want from the reports combo list.
^^37^^And press the report button.
^^38^^FC also allows to export-import data from-to a comma delimited file.
^^39^^Finally you may backup Your data from inside FC.
NOTE if an external document (p.e. a write document) is in your environment it will also be backuped.
^^40^^FC provides total and incremental backups; we suggest a weekly total backup and a daily incremental backups.
^^41^^The Info Manager training end here,
^^42^^Please follow also the other training packages
^^43^^We are sure that now You may start using FC.
