INSTALLATION
------------
By the time you read this, you should have unpacked the files above
into a directory on your hard disk.
Method 1 - Drag and Drop:
Perhaps the easiest way to install the software is to open the Windows
File Manager and Program Manager simultaneously on the screen. Find
the Sympathy directory in the File Manager, then simply drag the
SYMPATHY.EXE and SYMPDM.EXE files from the File Manager and drop them
onto the desired group in the Program Manager.
The same process can be used to create Program Manager icons for the
*.WRI (Windows write) files and *.HLP (Windows help) files; also the
*.SYM (Sympathy grid) files, but only after an assocation has been set
up for them (see below).
Method 2 - Using Program Manager File/New...:
An alternative way to install the Sympathy programs is to use the
Program Manager File/New... command:
1. Select the Program Manager window and open a suitable program
group in which to install Sympathy;
2. Select File/New... from the Program Manager menu;
3. Ensure Program Item is selected in the New Program Object dialog,
then select OK;
4. Click on Browse... and use the file browser to find and select
the SYMPATHY.EXE program, then select OK;
5. Select OK in the Program Item Properties dialog.
Repeat this for the SYMPDM.EXE program.
Running Sympathy:
When icons for the Sympathy programs have been created in Program Manager,
they can be run by double clicking on these icons.
A tutorial for Sympathy can be viewed and printed from the Sympathy
Introduction screen. Further reference documentation for Sympathy is
available in the Sympathy on-line help file.
Grid saving is disabled in the demo version of Sympathy until a license
to use the program is installed. To obtain a license, complete and
send off the order form (which can be viewed and printed from the
Sympathy Introduction screen).
Adding the .SYM association:
Adding an association for .SYM in the File Manager will enable you to
edit a Sympathy grid (.SYM) file simply by double clicking on the grid
file in File Manager. You will also be able to drag grid files into
Program Manager groups and start Sympathy by double clicking on them
there.
To create the association follow these steps:
1. Select File/Associate... from the File Manager menu;
2. Type SYM into the "Files with Extension:" text entry box;
3. Click on Browse... and use the file browser to find and select
the SYMPATHY.EXE program, then select OK;
4. Select OK in the Associate dialog.
