  5. Installation of MacSEE:
  6.  
  7.  DOS - Simply copy the MACSEE.EXE file to a directory and execute it (by
  8.   typing MACSEE).
  9.  
  10.  Windows - Copy all of the included files to a directory and run
  11.   INSTALLW.EXE to install the Windows version of MacSEE.
  12.

  15.   This shareware demo version of MacSEE is free and can be distributed
  16. freely. It serves to demonstrate our MacSEE software. It will read/write
  17. Mac disks and transfer files of 16K in length, make & remove folders, delete
  18. files, and rename files. Why only 16K files? Because this is a demo.
  19. This README.TXT file can be used as a sample file to transfer to a Mac disk.
  20. First set preferences so that translation is on Auto-Detect. Then transfer
  21. the file. That's just how easy to use MacSEE is. MacSEE is not only the best
  22. way to get files to and from Mac disks on a PC, but it's also the most
  23. flexible as it features translations for many popular files types and
  24. works with SyQuest and Bernoulli removables or any other SCSI hard disk
  25. that is ASPI compliant or BIOS Int 13h driven. MacSEE is also available
  26. at the least cost and includes both DOS and Windows versions in one package.

  31.   MacSEE is a powerful utility that allows a standard PC to read/write
  32. Macintosh disks. This includes 3.5" 1.44/2.88 Mb high density Macintosh disks,
  33. CD-ROMs, and Macintosh formatted hard drives (e.g. SyQuest and Bernoulli
  34. removables). MacSEE gives access to the complete Macintosh file system...the
  35. included DOS and Windows shareware versions are the same as the full
  36. versions with the following restrictions:
  37.  
  38.     * Transfer of files is limited to 16K
  39.     * Formatting will not format, but it will allow to you set up a format
  40.       (so you can see how it works)
  41.     * The Resource Inspector will display resources in a Mac file, but won't
  42.       extract them
  43.  
  44. The full version allows for all of these disabled features to function
  45. properly.
  46.  
  47. (Note: MacSEE can not read low density 800K Mac disks. We have received many
  48. calls regarding this. It's not possible to read low density Mac disks
  49. without additional hardware. Sorry!)

  51. Translation Modes
  52. =================
  53.  
  54.   Once again MacSEE's file translations have been altered. We believe the new
  55. system will be more flexible and equally as powerful. The standard
  56. MacBinary II and BinHex translation remain unaltered for those of you using
  57. MacSEE to download to your PC and copy files to a Mac disk for use on a Mac
  58. (that's one good use of MacSEE...if you have a Mac at another location you
  59. can download those neat Mac programs while on your PC and use them when you
  60. get to a Mac!).
  61.   For those using MacSEE to transfer data such as text files, pictures,
  62. spreadsheets, Postscript, and so on read on. Instead of the 'Data File'
  63. translation that was introduced in MacSEE 3.2 we now have Automatic and
  64. Manual translations. Automatic is essentially identical to Data File where
  65. MacSEE will automatically identify your files and move them over to the other 
  66. platform...Manual allows you to override this and select from MacSEE's four
  67. basic translations: Data Fork, Resource Fork, Text, and MacPaint/PCX.
  68. Usually, if the file is not recognized by MacSEE, you'll want to use Data
  69. Fork translation.

  71. What's New & Bug Fixes
  72. ======================
  73.   MacSEE for Windows no longer relies on the silly WinASPI drivers that
  74. nobody, but Adaptec, supports. The drivers are a great idea...but without
  75. support they've caused more frustration than it was worth. MacSEE for
  76. Windows will no longer not recognize ASPI compatible drives due to this
  77. problem meaning those that have had to use the DOS version because of this
  78. can now enjoy the benefits of the Windows version.
  79.   MacSEE 4.1 fixes a bug that would occasionally cause MacSEE to cross link
  80. files on large files when a disk became fragmented. This has been fixed.
  81.   File tagging is now supported allowing you to transfer multiple files in
  82. one operation.
  83.   A Resource Inspector allowing you to inspect Macintosh resources and
  84. extract their data is included. This is a powerful feature and is where much
  85. of MacSEE's future development is being aimed. For example, the Resource
  86. Inspector allows you to move Mac Truetype fonts over to your PC and use
  87. them. This would not be possible otherwise.
  88.   MacSEE 4.1 now allows for formatting/partitioning of Mac hard disks such
  89. as SyQuest removables.
