Match Maker Version 2.5
Match Maker is a Windows 3.1 utililty program that allows you to "match"
files between two different disk drives and/or directories. The various
options let you create specification files for many many options. This
program is written in Visual Basic 3.0 which, in turn, means you must
have VBRUN300.DLL in your windows or windows\system directory to execute
the program.
The utility of Match Maker is unmatched in the shareware arena. It is a
"file copying, file matching, file updating utility that will work
between any two drives that can or are assigned a drive designation
letter, in one, or both directions. These functions can vary from
"sneaker net" disk updates, to full-fledged network file matching, to
system backups of all or only newer files. The possible combinations of
options are many. A better explanation is made with examples:
1) If you carry disks back and forth from one system to another
or from home to work, Match Maker will allow you to automatically
copy files that have changed (or unconditionally) in one or both
directions to insure the most recent versions of each file are
available on the systems--saving you from trying to remember
which files you changed one one system or the other and
remembering to copy the new ones to the other!
2) If you are responsible for maintaining consistent setups on a
network of systems, Match Maker will allow you to automatically
update the "critical" files on each system (by disk drive letter)
whenever you make any changes on your local system--automatic
update distribution.
Requirements:
Windows 3.1 with the standard True Type fonts enabled
Visual Basic 3.0 runtime library file ( VBRUN300.DLL )
( available on most every BBS system ) Must be
in the windows or windows system directory
Other necessary runtime libraries are included in the
.ZIP and must be present in the program directory,
the windows directory, or windows system directory
Installation:
The program is zipped using PKZip V2.04g and can be unzipped with
any compatible decompression utility. The program may unzipped into any
directory you wish, except C:\MMAKER$$. The program requires a C: drive
be present on your system for the following working files: ( Can be a C:
drive created via DOS SUBST command ).
C:\MMaker.LOG - Transaction file of MatchMaker actions
( May be deleted after MMaker program completion )
C:\MMaker$$\*.* - Temporary storage location of files
when "Saftey Copy" option is selected.
MatchMaker may be started with a single command line parameter for the
specifications file to use--so you can "run" a specifications file from
Program Manager (if you create an icon for a speifications file) or File
Manager. You must specify the .SPC to MMAKER.EXE association in File
Manager first to use these options, otherwise, you have to specify the
program name for the icon and the specifications file as the command
line parameter.
MatchMaker uses a temporary directory in the root directory of drive C:\
for safety copies. This directory is named \MMAKER$$. In the event of
errors during a copy process (if safety copy is activated) the previous
version of all files that have changed will be available in this hidden
directory. If you do not happen to have a "drive C:" please consult
your DOS documentation to use the SUBST command to "create" a drive C:
on another disk. Additionally, this version of MatchMaker creates a
thorough transaction log file in C:\MMaker.LOG for the entire process as
an additional safety feature... in the event of errors, this log will
identify all actions taken by the program before the error.
I am sure I probably have NOT been able to anticipate every conceivable
system installation setup, so please, if you experience any problems,
send me e-mail with as much detail as possible and normally I will be
able to respond to you within 24 hours, and hopefully with a workaround
or a fix in about that time-frame too!
Thanks for trying and supporting shareware! Registration fee for this
program is $20 and covers a license for up to 10 computers owned and
operated by the registrant!

Version History
2.0 - Multiple changes!
2.1 - File save changed to always present dialog (allowing for saving under
a different file name if desired.
- Slightly smaller screen for "friendlier" laptop support
- Number of files checked/copied changed to give separate status counts
for checked and for copied, for example, 20/10 showing 20 checked and
10 copied
- Read-only/hidden/write errors to output file handled with error message
logged to MMaker.LOG instead of abrupt program termination
- Distribued file Default.MMK un-hidden. If user wants to manually edit
and screw up this file, "oh well". "Friendlier" to disk compression
programs, etc.
2.2 - Clicking in destination drive/directory box after adding a new spec
did not deactivate the Remove spec button--clicking it then would
generate an error
2.3 - Corrected two strange vbasic behvioral generated errors causing the
source file spec to become "unhighlighted" when changes were made to
the status form during an unattended copy operation.
2.4 - Corrected the same problem as 2.3 corrected. VB did not recreate
problem in single-step mode but did without?!
"Known" errors - Non.
