- ADDITIONAL INFORMATION FOR ImageEditor 1.1
- COPYRIGHT 1994, PICTUREWORKS TECHNOLOGY, INC.
-
-
- This document contains additional information about the ImageEditor 1.1 XTension
- that could not be included in the manual.
- ----------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- • EPS/DCS file format When saving images in the EPS/DCS file format, you must
- first convert your image to CMYK mode. If your image is in another color
- mode, the DCS options will be grayed and unavailable. To save an image in the
- EPS/DCS format:
- 1. Choose CMYK from the IMAGE XT Mode menu. If your image is already CMYK color,
- skip to the next step.
- 2. Choose Save As from the File menu.
- 3. Select the EPSF file format from the pop-up menu.
- 4. Click the Save button or press the Return key. The EPS options dialog box appears.
- 5. Select the dialog box options that you want to use and click OK.
-
- If you choose to cancel when saving an image as EPS Desktop Color Separation
- files, the original DCS files may inadvertently be deleted. As well, if you
- save an EPS composite image as the same name as a previous EPS/DCS file, the
- original DCS components will remain on the hard drive.
-
-
- • Temporary Files To provide and ensure proper handing of your image,
- ImageEditor creates a temporary, or spill file. To do this ImageEditor requires
- two and one-third times the size of the image you are editing. The temporary
- file will be created on the same drive from which the QuarkXPress application
- is executed and is titled "ImageEditor Temp".
-
-
- • Grayscale editing
- When editing images in grayscale you can select a new shade to
- paint with. Clicking the foreground color swatch brings up a grayscale palette.
- The slider numbers correspond to the currently selected foreground gray and
- are set from 0 (white) to 255 (black). Drag the sliders on the gray palette to
- select the desired shade. To select a gray from the Gray Palette:
- 1. Click once on the Current Color Swatch on the ImageEditor tool palette to
- open theImageEditor grayscale palette.
- 2. Drag the slider to select the desired shade of gray. Drag to the left to
- select a lighter shade or to the right for a darker shade. The new shade of
- gray appears in the sample on the palette.
- 3. Click OK to accept the gray and exit the dialog box. The shade you selected
- is now the foreground color and is updated in the Current Color Swatch on the
- ImageEditor tool palette.
-
-
- • PICT File Format The PICT file format is available when saving Black and
- White, Grayscale, or RGB images and supports 24-bit RGB color, not only 8-bits
- as documented in this guide. Use the 8-bits per pixel option to sample your
- image down to create different imaging effects, support specific application
- requirements and save disk space. The PICT file format options dialog box only
- appears when saving an RGB image.
-
-
- • Dimmed Edit Picture Command There may be an occasion when the Edit Picture
- command in the Utilities menu appears grayed and unavailable. If this happens,
- first make sure that the ImageEditor is not already open and running in the
- background. Use the View Windows command from the QuarkXPress menu bar to select
- the image name and bring the ImageEditor to the foreground. This situation may
- also occur if there are missing image files. If a picture has been moved since
- the last time you opened your document the Edit Picture command will be dimmed.
- Choose Picture Usage from the Utilities menu to update picture box links.
-
-
- • Pasting Between Image Windows Anew clipboard is created for each session in
- the ImageEditor. That clipboard is also closed and cleared when you quit the
- ImageEditor. Therefore, the cut, copy, and paste feature is not supported
- between image windows and multiple sessions in the ImageEditor.
-
-
- • Saving Images When saving images with the same file name but in a different
- file format, with the Replace Original in Quark option deselected, the Quark
- Picture Box may not update properly. Clear the original Picture Box and
- reimport the image file. Interrupting Screen Repaints If the screen repaint is
- interrupted with the ImageEditor window in the background, the image may not
- fully redraw. To correct, force a screen repaint from the ImageEditor.
