- Warcraft 2 Scenario: CHESS1.PUD
- CHESS2.PUD
- Date of Creation : 5 May 1996
- # Players : 2
- Map Size : 32 x 32
- Assigned Race : Human / Orc
- Enemy Race : Orc / Human
- Background :
- This is to be a war of the minds, not just a clash of steel. Only the
- greatest tactitian will survive this battle and claim the victory spoils.
- ..unless, of course, the sword is swifter after all..
-
- CHESS1.PUD :
- In this scenario, none of the characters involved are able to do any damage
- to each other (the exception to this is the human mage, who can activate a
- fireball, and the orcish death knight can use the spell death coil). This
- level is used for traditional or suicide chess. To begin, you should set
- each character to 'stand ground', and use stand ground after moving a piece
- into position.
- The opponents are humans versus orcs, with the pieces as follows:
- PLAYING PIECE represented by HUMAN ORC
- Pawn - Peasant Peon
- Rook / Castle - Ballista Catapult
- Knight - Knight Death Knight
- Bishop - Mage Ogre
- Queen - Elven Archer Troll Axethrower
- King - Footman Grunt
- Humans make the first move. When a piece is taken, its owner must move it
- off the board and place it into the appropriate holding area on the side,
- where the reserve pieces reside. These spare characters are to be used when
- a pawn reaches the opposite side of the board, and can be replaced by the
- piece of his/her choice. As usual, the game is won when you have defeated
- your opponent's king. (Note however that Warcraft II will not recognise
- this as a 'winning condition', so the loser must activate 'surrender'.
-
- An alternate way to play (and my personal favourite) is the game called
- 'suicide chess', where the winner is the first person to lose all their
- pieces. In this game, no piece is more important than any other piece (i.e.
- losing the king does not mean a player has won; the king is no more
- important than a pawn, say, in this game). Each piece must move as they do
- in traditional chess, again with humans taking the first move. The only
- condition is that when a player can capture an opponent's piece, he or she
- must do so. The only addendum to this rule is that when you have the choice
- of taking more than one different pieces (or taking the same piece in
- several ways), you can select which move to make -- but you must have
- captured one of the available pieces. The game ends when a player has lost
- all of their pieces, and that player is the winner. Again, the loser must
- activate 'surrender' to give the appropriate Victory and Defeat screens.
-
- CHESS2.PUD :
- Battle Chess - Warcraft II style. You can attempt to play traditional chess
- with this board also, where you simply kill the pieces you are capturing.
- The only problem, however, is that in this game the pieces retaliate. Also,
- if opposing pieces are in range they tend to be fired upon, or struck in
- passing, even when 'stand ground' is activated. Of course, you can always
- have an all out brawl! (That's how the games tend to end up anyway --
- usually initiated by the player who is losing!!!?)
