  14. MEMORY PROBLEMS

  17. Because the games on this CD-ROM have lots of graphics and animation,
  18. they also take up a fair amount of memory.  If you should get an
  19. Out of Memory error, or a warning that there is not enough memory
  20. available to start the game, there are several things you can do:
  21.  
  22. 1.  Create a boot disk.  To create a boot disk, format a blank floppy
  23.     diskette with the /s option.  If your floppy is in drive a:, try
  24.     
  25.     format a: /s
  26.     
  27.     Then copy your autoexec.bat and config.sys files to the floppy.
  28.     If your boot drive is c:, it might look like this:
  29.     
  30.     copy c:\autoexec.bat a:\autoexec.bat
  31.     copy c:\config.sys a:\config.sys
  32.  
  33.     Once the files have been copied, edit the versions that are on
  34.     the floppy, and remove all unnecessary commands, drivers, etc.
  35.     Make sure to leave your CD-ROM drivers if you are going to try
  36.     using the Companion disc at the same time.

  38. 2.  If you have DOS 6.0 or better, you might try using memmaker.
  39.     Memmaker is a great utility, but if you decide to use it, then
  40.     you should definately, Definately, DEFINATELY back-up your
  41.     autoexec.bat and config.sys somewhere safe.
  42.  
  43. 3.  Instead of using a boot disc, you could make a dual-boot
  44.     startup.  DOS 6.0 is required to do this, but it is a fantastic
  45.     way to handle multiple startup configurations.  Consult your DOS
  46.     manual for more information.

  51.                       UNINSTALLING THE INTERFACE

  54. The interface is never actually installed, since it runs
  55. directly from the CD-ROM.  However, if you install any of the 
  56. Apogee games to your hard drive, then a small configuration file 
  57. is created in the root directory of your boot drive (usually C:).
  58. This file is named ACONFIG.TXT, and is initially hidden to prevent
  59. accidental deletion.  If you wish to remove the file, you can 
  60. easily do so with the following DOS commands:
  61.  
  62. attrib -h c:\aconfig.txt
  63. del c:\aconfig.txt
  64.  
  65. (please note that if your boot drive is a different letter than
  66. "c:", that you must use it in place of the drive in the example
  67. commands above.)

  73. These games will launch directly from CD-ROM but this may take some time. 
  74. Please remember that CD-ROM access is very slow and be patient.  You can
  75. improve performance dramatically by using SMARTDRV to cache the your
  76. CD-ROM Drive or by installing the game to your hard disk.  Once the game
  77. is installed to your hard disk, you may continue to use the interface to 
  78. launch the games!
