Helpfile for Lemonade.Original version Lemonade Stall © Europress
This program has been written using the routines supplied with the EvntShell
library which is copyright Paul Hobbs.
A note from Paul follows at the end of this Help file.
Introduction.
For those of you out there that like a good shoot-'em-up,with lots of blood
etc. then this is not for you.
There are no guns,no alien hoardes rushing towards you,no monsters to
kill,no baddies to rub out,no hostile forces to attack or enemy bases to
overcome.No punching,kicking,shooting,swearing,fighting,spitting?,stabbing,
and best of all,no dying.None of the fun things that leave you swearing and
hitting the keyboard every time you get killed at the same place and cannot
get any further.
Just a gentle little program to pass the time away while you drink your
coffee and wait until the RayTracing finishes. You know what I mean.
This is a conversion from the original game by Mark Smiddy from Electron
User September 87,and was initially called Lemonade Stall. This conversion is
done with permission from Europress who hold the copyright from Mark Smiddy
and Electron User. His Introduction is as follows;-
'Lemonade Stall is an educational program dealing with the complex topics of
business, finance and making (or if you're unlucky, losing) money.
Although it appears to be a game,Lemonade Stall is a realistic simulation
and demonstrates the effect of decisions in various lifelike situations,
although many of these have been exaggerated for the sake of playability.'
Basically, the idea of the 'Game' is.- MAKE MONEY !
You have been given the chance of running a Lemonade and Ice-cream stall
during your summer holidays,(6 weeks) in the country of Los Palmos, which has
four major holiday resorts.
At the end of the holiday period you will be assessed on your performance
and also receive 10% of the profits.
Initially you are given £50 float and a Stall with no stock, and transport
to get to the various resorts, but there are a number of things to do before
you can make any money.
1.You need to buy stock from the Warehouse.Be carefull!.Ice cream for
instance is expensive and sells well, but may melt in hot weather.A good idea
is to check the weather report before buying. Also, you will have to work out
how much you can buy as the Warehouse manager will get annoyed if you order
some stock but cannot afford to pay for it.
2.You may like to adjust your prices.Obviosly if you want to make money you
will have to make things dearer, but remember,as in real-life,if the
things are too expensive, you won't be able to sell them.
3.Select your resort to set up a Stall, taking into account such things as
the weather etc. Some resorts require that you pay a Fee to set up a Stall
there.
4.Start selling.Hopefully the weather and the holiday-makers will be kind to
you.
5.At the end of the Day you go home and the next morning, restock and select
a resort again for that day.
The Days sales are automatically updated and you will be notified of any
events that may affect you, such as freak storms etc.
There area lot of Factors that are taken into account, such as greed, weather,
popularity of a town,price of goods,desirability of goods,strikes,human
nature,race meetings,carnivals,etc.etc.etc.
Sometimes you give out the wrong change and can lose or make some money that
way.People even ask for change without buying anything.
When more people arrive, such as a coachload of daytrippers, you are obliged
to extend your opening hours.
As in life, this game cannot be won.The object is to make as much money as
possible by the end of the holiday period (42 days).
Due to space restrictions some headings have been abbreviated,eg.
RSP - Recommended Selling Price. This is the Default selling price if you do
not want to alter your prices.
ASP - Actual Selling Price. This is the price you set.
Acorns Interactive Help is fully supported, although it is easy enough to
play and most things are self-explanatory.
In some instances you will find that you require more money than you have.
In this case you will have to pay out of your own pocket and your cash
available will go negative for a short time.
In this situation there is a facility to borrow money from the bank.Interest
is at 15% which will all have to be repaid at the end of the holiday period.
Also at this time, any stock you have left will be written off at the price
you paid for it,so make sure you've sold everything by then and made a
profit.
Loading
Double click on the icon and Lemonade will install itself on the iconbar as
normal with a simple Info and Quit menu.
Playing
Click on the Icon as normal and the main options window will open showing
two sections. The first and main section are your options and the second
smaller section displays information along with a Help icon.If help is
already loaded messages will be displayed giving information on
icons/windows.
If not already loaded this will load and Run Acorn's Help (RISC OS3/3.1).
RISC OS2 and RISC PC will have to load Help from APPS Disc.
Your options are:-
Go to the Warehouse
Stock check
Set Prices
Select a Town
Weather Forecast
Information on (your selected town)
Go selling in (your selected town)
Borrow some money
Quit
All these are self explanatory except maybe Quit, which gives a report on how
well you have done then closes all the windows and resets the game to the
start.
To Quit completely,Select Quit from the IconBar menu.
Just closing the main options window retains all the data and clicking again
on the iconbar icon restarts where you left off.
Notes
Most of the game is original except for the following few 'adjustments'.
1.Lemonade will multi-task.Qlthough sometimes there is a few seconds delay.
2.Float increased to £50.(Originally only £10)
3.Some extra 'Events' have been added.
4.Borrowing increased to £25.(Originally £10)
5.An indicator was added to show progress throughout the day.Sometimes it
looked as if nothing was happening so I added this to show otherwise.
Tips
Don't set your prices too high.
If you are not selling anything then they are too expensive, the weather is
too bad,or the customers have gone elsewhere.Remember you are not the only
stall on the resort, and ice-cream won't sell in the rain.
If you have too much money or have borrowed too much already, there will be
none available at the bank.
Check the weather every day.
Some resorts require a Fee before you can set up stall there.

Remember, this is a conversion from an old Electron game,(Yes,I had one.Still
got it somewhere.) So don't expect too much, although it does help to teach
youngsters about cash,(buying, selling, etc) it passes the time and makes a
change from the usual. Have fun, Bill
