  2. Acknowledgements.
  3.      Thanks are due to Computer Concpets for providing me with a copy
  4. of their document processor software 'Impression'. Impression has
  5. been used to produce the illustrated worksheets. Computer Concepts
  6. are at Gaddesden Place, Hemel Hempstead, Herts., HP2 6EX.      
  7.      Some of the pictures have been produced with the aid of Computer
  8. Concepts 'Scan Light Junior'. The scanner was provided by ECS Computers,
  9. Kettlewell House, Kettlewell Lane, Kings Lynn, Norfolk, to whom I owe many
  10. thanks for their help and support in this project to produce Electronic
  11. Scientific Support Material (ESSM).

  13. Electronic Science Support Material (ESSM).
  14.      ESSM is aimed at the science teacher. Its purpose is to produce
  15. high quality scientific pictures, worksheets, posters and at a later
  16. stage technical pictures that are stored on disc. This material can
  17. then be used and altered by teachers to suit their own needs. The
  18. material is copyright free, it may copied and passed on providing the
  19. copyright notice (see below) is observed. The cost of the material is
  20. intended to be about the price of a disc. 
  21.      In the past teachers have spent many hours producing printed
  22. information/worksheets/diagrams for pupils. Subsequently other
  23. teachers have used them but found that they did not quite meet their
  24. own requirements, or the original author found that the 'goal posts'
  25. had been moved, necessitating the material to be re-written. It
  26. occurred to me that if this work was done on a computer then it would
  27. be easier to tailor the material to suit individual needs. Until
  28. recently such work has been limited to text only, but with the
  29. development of the Archimedes and cheap, high quality, easy to use
  30. scanners such as Computer Concepts 'Scan Light' and 'Scan Junior',
  31. pictures can easily be put into a computer. Now pictures and text can
  32. be combined using desk top publishing (DTP) software, such as Computer
  33. Concepts 'Impression', (which is technically a document processor,
  34. capable of wordprocessing and desk top publishing) to produce a
  35. printed illustrated document. However, as the information is also on
  36. disc it can be easily altered to suit an individual teachers needs.

  38. Copyright Notice.
  39.      The contents of this disc is intended as public domain software
  40. (PDS). It is copyright free and copies of the disc may be made for
  41. free distribution, providing all ReadMe files that are on the original
  42. disc are present on any copied discs. The end user may modify the
  43. contents of the disc to suit their own particular needs, providing
  44. that any alterations are indicated (e.g. within a ReadMe file).

  46. Disc Contents.
  47.      This disc has 2 directories Impression and Pictures. Impression
  48. contains illustrated worksheets produced using Computer Concepts
  49. 'Impression'. The Pictures directory contains the diagrams that are in
  50. the illustrated worksheet.
