VERBMASTER: THE AID TO LEARNING FOREIGN VERBS
FRENCH MODULE
by and (c) Nigel Caplan, 1995.
***** GrammarText *****
***** The CONDITIONAL Tense *****
Checklist: GCSE - useful, especially at Higher level
A Level - essential
- 1 - ===== Use =====
The conditional tense (or future conditional) is used to express a
hypothesis or condition of something that has not yet happened. It
translates the English construction:
* I would watch.
- 2 - ===== Formation =====
The formation is always the same: take the future tense of the verb
(see GrammarText - Future tense) and change to the imperfect endings.
- 3 - ===== Impersonals =====
(These verbs are not included in VerbMaster-French because they are only
really used in the 'il' form; also some general phrases)
falloir -> il faudrait (it would be necessary)
pleuvoir -> il pleuvrait (it would rain)
plaire -> ça me plairait (I would like it)
ça irait! (I would be alright..., etc)
il y aurait (there would be)
- End -
