-"Did you have any luck on the horses yesterday ?"
-"I sure did. After the races I found a quid! I could take the bus home!"
Covered in bandages and plaster, the patient was recovering at the clinic,
as he woke up he asked of his friend sitting beside the bed:
-"What...what happened...why am I here ?"
-"Don't you remember how we got drunk at the company party
yesterday, and you had bet you'd jump out of the window
ot the second floor and fly around the block ?"
-"For Gods sake, why did you let me jump from such a height ?"
-"Why'd I let you ? I bet a hundred bucks you'd do it!"
-"And so I've heard", the major told the corpral that just had been commanded
to his unit, "that you like to gamble and particularly to bet. But don't
you dare even joking about such things here. Do you understand what I'm
saying ?"
-"Yes sir, I understand. But what should I do, I just can't resist any
temptation to bet. Like right now, I'd very much like to bet you a hundred
bucks that you have a checkered vest under your shirt."
-"OK, then", the major said, "then we bet. And let that be a lesson."
And so he took off his shirt to prove his vest wasn't checkered and that
he, as a matter of fact, didn't have anything at all under his shirt.
-"Now, I hope this'll show you", he said smiling, "how stupid betting is",
as he recieved his money.
That same evening the major was telling his assistant about that corpral and
what had happened earlier that day. The assistant angrliy replied:
-"Oh no! I met that corpral this morning when he arrived, and the first thing
he did, before he even told me his name, he wanted to bet me five hundred
bucks he'll make you take off your shirt not later than five minutes after
you met."
Cohen had died in a car accident, and so his friends had chosen Levi to
be the one that should tell Cohen's wife what had happened.
He knocked on her door, and she opened it.
-"Excuse me", Levi said, "are you the widow of mr Cohen."
-"No, I'm not a widow."
-"Wanna bet ?"
-"I have decided to quit gambling and betting."
-"Oh, yea, I know you. That won't last long."
-"Oh yeah ? Wanna bet !"
