  6.         audio signals consisting of signed 16bit data, mono or
  7.         stereo. It is designed as stream filter around an
  8.         effcient internal structure. On-the-fly conversions
  9.         while recording or playing sound are possible although
  10.         they depend on CPU-speed and other specific demands. It
  11.         can also be used as a low-pass filter without changing
  12.         rates. Target platforms are un*x systems.
