To run The Phone Center, just type START and press Enter. If you need to force
the program to run in color, type TPC12 /C. If you need to force the program
to run in monochrome, type TPC12 /M. If you are using a monochrome monitor and
some of the text is invisible, press 'X' from the main menu screen to bring up
the Setup Menu. Then, repeatedly press F8 until the text appears. Make sure
you save the new setup by pressing 'S'. If you have trouble getting the modem
to respond properly, press 'X' from the main menu screen and then increase the
Command Delay by pressing '>'. To get the program to respond quickly to your
modem, load the program using /300, /1200, /2400, or /9600. Each of these
numbers corresponds to the highest baud rate usable by your modem. The program
defaults to using /300 for compatibility. The program works best when you use
the highest baud rate your modem will support. If you want to use the program
without a modem, load the program by typing TPC12 /N. Call collect at
1-606-263-2687 if you have any other problems or questions.

│What is THE PHONE CENTER and why is it unique?│
└──────────────────────────────────────────────┘
The Phone Center is a unique telephone number database/dialer program. It can
have up to 1000 Phonebook entries. It allows you to have a prefix of up to 30
characters and each telephone number can have up to 30 characters. This should
be sufficient for just about any PBX or non-AT&T carrier. It also allows you
to enter a 39 character note along with each Name and Number entry. In
addition, the program provides call logging for automatic storage of each name,
number, and time you make a phone call.
If all this sound like every phone dialer you've seen before, you're right.
The difference is in the additional features the program includes.
The following is a list of unique features you will find in The Phone Center:
1. AREA CODE SEARCH.│ This feature provides an instant search window that
────────────────────┘ allows you to look up all the area codes for each state
or province. It also provides for a reverse search that allows you to enter an
area code to find out what area it applies to. How many times have you gotten
a message to return a call and wondered where that 205 or 502 area code
actually is? This program will quickly tell you.
2. TIME ZONE SEARCH.│ This feature provides an instant search window that
────────────────────┘ allows you to look up the time zone of a particular city.
All times are displayed by their name and by how many hours they depart from
the Eastern time zone. You can use this feature in conjunction with the Area
Code Search to find out just what time your caller meant when he or she said
"Call me at 4:00PM at 1-606-263-2687".
3. CALCULATOR.│ O.K., this one is not so unusual, but it is a pretty useful
──────────────┘ feature to have. In addition, it's a multiline calculator so
it has some added utility. I'm sure that you've had phone conversations where
you needed to do some quick calculations, but you couldn't find that stupid
calculator you had just a minute ago.
4. ZIPPY CALENDAR.│ This feature displays a calendar of the current month. By
──────────────────┘ using the +, -, Page-Up, and Page-Down keys, it will
display any month from January, 1910 to December, 1999.
5. QUICK MEMO.│ This feature provides a window for taking notes during phone
──────────────┘ calls. Any notes you take can then be sent to the printer. It
allows you to enter up to 160 characters (2 lines on the printer). You can use
this feature many times during a phone call to send very long messages to the
printer.
6. LOG VIEWER.│ This feature allows you to conveniently view the log file at
──────────────┘ any time from the main program. Most dialers just write a file
and expect you to be able to read it yourself from DOS. This method is much
more easy to use.
7. DOS SHELL.│ This feature allows to you quickly exit to DOS if you need to
─────────────┘ use any DOS functions while in The Phone Center.
8. MANUAL DIAL.│ This feature presents you with a telephone keypad that you can
───────────────┘ use to dial a number directly from the keypad. One neat thing
about this feature is that it converts letters directly into numbers. So the
next time you want to dial that 1-800-4ABUICK number, you don't have to keep
looking up what numbers go with ABUICK.
9. ENTRY FINDER.│ This feature allows you to quickly find any Name or Number
────────────────┘ stored in the program database. This function makes the
program much easier to use when there are a lot of entries to search through.
Also, it can identify what name goes with those "Mystery" numbers we all have
in our heads.
10. HANGMAN GAME.│ This is really the most unique feature of the program. How
─────────────────┘ many times have you been kept on the phone while the other
person droned on and on about such fascinating topics as "whatever happened to
sea monkeys?" Well, in times past you were forced to doodle or just look at
the ceiling. Now you can do something almost as productive, you can play
Hangman! The game has been written without sound effects so that it will be
harder for the droner to tell what you are doing. This version has about 60
puzzles, while the registered version has 400. It is important to remember to
occassionally say "Oh", "Hmm", "I guess so", "Sure", and "Ummm yeah" when
playing this game to avoid detection.
───────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────────
Miscellaneous Program and Registration Information:
The manual for this program in contained in the help file. To read the help
file, just run the program and press the F1 key when you get to the main
program screen.
The program can have up to 1000 database entries. It can have a setup string
of up to 30 characters, and a prefix string of up to 30 characters. In
addition, each telephone Number field can have 30 characters. Each Name field
can be up to 21 characters, and there is room for 39 characters in the Notes
field.
When the program and documentation refer to COM ports, this is simply the
number of the serial port the modem is connected to. If you still don't know
what this means, and your modem is not working, just keep changing the number
of the COM port using X-Configure until it does work. (Most modems are
connected to COM 2, and most mice are connected to COM 1).
While using the program, remember that almost every window can be moved around
the screen using the cursor keys. If you need to exit from anything, just
press the Escape (Esc) key. The Escape key will also exit the program and
return you to DOS.
If you choose to register the program, you will receive the enhanced version.
The enhanced version has no opening or closing delay screens, and has many more
questions in the hangman game. In addition, purchasing the enhanced version
entitles you to free updates for a year.
As an added bonus, orders received before June 30, 1993 will include a
certificate that allows you to purchase the JCSM Shareware Collection CD-ROM
for only $9.95 + S&H.
The registration price goes down with the number of copies you buy. 1 copy
costs $20. 2 or more copies cost $15 each, and 6 or more copies cost $13 each.
For shipping outside the U.S. and Canada add $10.
