MAKE SURE YOU ARE USING DOOM V1.2 or HIGHER!!!
**** What is DooMenu:
DooMenu now fully support Death Match v2.0 and -fast if you use v1.4+ of
Doom. DooMenu will search thru WAD files for the correct map/episode for
easy play! It will now even load multi-pwads! It will also allow IPX
network, modem, and null-modem play, or stand alone play quickly and easily
thru a menu which is far better than the one packaged with Doom. DooMenu
allows you to choose coorperative, or deathmatch with respawn or no monsters
on or off, it can load a save game, or use an external WAD file. It will ask
you for the skill, episode, episode map, number to dial, and weather to
disable call waiting. It can store up to 9 different default friends for
speed dialing. It is very quick and does a lot more than the Doom setup
does. The Doom setup does not support -nomonsters, -file, -fast, or call
waiting. DooMenu does this and more.
**** How to Start:
Just type DOOMENU and follow the instructions.
After you have configured doomenu, all you need to do is to type DOOMENU
and it will load up and ask you a series of questions. Answer them and
eventully it will load up ipxsetup.exe, doom.exe, or sersetup.exe with the
proper parameters.
If you ever need to reconfigure DooMenu just type
DOOMENU /C
**** HELP! DooMenu is screwing up and I can't figure it out!
Try typing del doomenu.* and unzip the orginal again. Sometimes that seems
to help. If it still does not work, leave me a comment on internet.
**** Explain How DooMenu use external WAD files?
DooMenu looks in the doom directory for all wad files besides the main
doom wad file. If any are found it adds the option to load an external wad
file at the episode prompt. Once you select this you are given a list of all
wad file in the dir. Use the arrow keys and highlight the one you want and
then it will use that wad file in to play. Make sure the person your playing
with also has loaded the same wad file. Once you have selected the wads you
want, if you tell it to doomenu automatically looks in the wad file to find
the first level the external wad edited, and then automatically warp to that
level. DooMenu will also record the number of times each of wad you have has
been played, so it will be easy to spot wads you haven't tried yet. This
will be stored in DOOMENU.WDI. If you find that you can't get wads to work
and have read the docs fully, leave me a comment and maybe it's not you.
**** Does DooMenu support different SERSETUP's not made by ID?
Yes. It will send the commands as normal to sersetup.exe, so just name
your new sersetup to sersetup.exe. If you need to add an command line option
to sersetup everytime, for example you need to send -14400 then just type
'DOOMENU -14400'. You can pass up to 9 commands thru doomenu to the new
sersetup.
**** Sometimes I get a warning message about my command line being long?
I am telling this to tell you about a MAJOR problem you will almost
definatly ecounter if you use DOOM v1.2 with DOOMENU or any other DOOMENU
clone. What is this problem? I'll tell you. There are major bugs in
passing more than 155 character command lines to doom v1.2 or sersetup, like
doomenu can. With the ability to load more than one external wad file its
easy to go far beyond 155 characters. I think DOS v6.0+ (5?) and 4DOS can
support command lines more than 155 characters, but it seems that DOOM is not
reconizing them. Anyways I am just warning you that there will be error if
you try to do TOO much. DooMenu will beep at you and display a warning
message if this occurs so if that never happens you will be fine. In v1.4+
there is a @RESPONCE file which removes the 155 barrier which DooMenu fully
supports, but the shareware v1.4+ doesn't exactly need it cause you can't
load pwads.
**** How do pay tribute to this great shareware author?
For full details of registered please view DOOMENU.REG. By registering you
can receive, if you wish, the source code (written in Turbo Pascal v7.0) to
the latest copy of DooMenu, and the lastest copy of DooMenu.
Thanks for your support.
The very least you can do if you have internet access is just to leave me a
message expessing your opinion of DooMenu.
**** Do you have any thing else to say?
I would like to thank everyone on internet for helping me with ideas on
how to improve DOOMENU, and of course for those that registered with DooMenu
with me. I am amazed at internet's ability for mass information, and how
that it is only getting bigger. I'd also like to thank ID, alt.games.doom,
and the sysop of infant2.sphs.indiana.edu for obvious reasons. I'd also
like to thank Rob Verenna for making/hacking that pretty little PCX file
displayed when you reconfigure.
If you find any errors or have any suggestions get in touch, but try to make
sure that you have the newest version. See the top of this file for location
on where to get it on internet.
