Single Play / Coop Notes
This level takes me about 45 mins to complete on HMP visiting at least half
of the secrets (on UV it takes me > 1hr if I want to visit all those secrets
and kille all the monsters)
Its very doable on that difficulty even if you don't discover hidden ammo etc.
After a casual run through I was left with the following status at the end
Health 197%
Armour 200%
Bullets 400
Shells 100
Rockets 6
Cells 427
Kill 99%
Item 89%
Secret 79%
Time 45 mins
- You can finish it with only shotgun/chainsaw ...
although that plasma gun sure is handy.
- If doom bombs with the infamous Z_malloc error at the end stats then
you *will* need more RAM (4Mb doesn't do this justice)
- Most of the weapons are guarded by ambush-happy monsters
The atmpsphere here is 'never trust a gimme' and 'watch your back'.
Refer to weapons.txt for explicit spoilers.
- This level has a *lot* of secrets....
Winding passages, secret shortcuts, altars which aren't just there for
decoration, secret ambush rooms full of various goodies.
Most of the high calibre powerups are hidden in secret rooms.
Some of those secret rooms are partially visible and thus provide for
a "drool" effect.
- The level itself is of 'open' type, with a lot of courtyard area....
Although you may not agree at first.
It has a very dense (and quite large) central core surrounded by several
courtyard areas.
There are various 'highways' leading from the central core out into
the outer courtyards. At the beggining they're mostly blocked off in
some way which leaves you to find other ways to get out into the open
Once you find a few crucial switches the highways open up for you
to traverse. The courtyards themselves are interconnected.
- The are a lot of doors on this level.... I would have liked to have
about 10 keys at my disposal to lock a few but I had to do with 3 <sigh>
So some of the doors are operated by switches... some of the switches are
some distance away...
- There is no harm in pressing a switch, you will never be harmed after
immediatelly pressing a switch (no crushing ceiling switches blah blah)
So if you find a switch just try it out. You may find that it
does not do anything noticable at first... just remeber this is the
Castle of Evil so it probably did do something in some other part of
the level.
- On the other hand you may come to immediate danger if you want to swipe
something like a key or a weapon... this is not true in all cases but
be prepared.
