SHEZ REVISION HISTORY
v9.8 3/29/83 Correct ESC key processing. If ESC key is configured
to immediately exit SHEZ it will only do so from the DOS
directory window.
Changed drop down menu text to reduce memory requirements.
Fixed problem of adding the file $Z.$ when copying files from
one compressed file to another.
Fixed problem of not being able to copy files from a compressed
file to a UC2 compressed file.
Added internal support to UUENCODE and UUDECODE files. Files
listed in the DOS directory window or contained within a
compressed file can be ENCODED or DECODED.
Fixed problem were SHEZ was not positioning the highlight bar
correctly when move back up the directory tree when there are
more than 60 directories listed.
SHEZ can now handle up to 200 bytes of 4DOS descriptive text.
The description will now appear in a dialog box in the lower
right corner of the screen. ALT-D will toggle the dialog box
bewteen the text and the SHEZ configuration information.
Added ability to configure default sort order for each type of
sort. In addition sort order is now changed via the ALT-F9 key.
When using the ALT-F1 to view FILE_ID.DIZ files, pressing the
ENTER key or ESC key will remove the view dialog box, or info
message box and will move the highlight bar down one line.
The USER MENU HELP item has been removed from the USER drop
down menu. Help can now be obtained by pressing F1 at anytime.
When editting a file in a compressed file, if the file is
changed a the user will be asked if the file should be saved
back into the compressed file.
Had to change the FILE-ID.DIZ list function from CTRL-D key to
ALT-F1 key due to incompatiblities with some PC's.
Modified ZIP read function to correct possible lockup on
corrupted zip files.
Added new DOS directory function SMART COPY (ALT-F2). Smart
copy will write the tagged files to the specified destination
attempting to fill the destination disk to it's maximum
capacity. When the target disk is full, SHEZ will issue an
information message and the files that did not get copied will
remain tagged.
Added sort type of Tag to DOS directory display. When sorting
by TAG the tagged files will appear at the top of the list, and

the secondary sort key will be file size.
When specifying User defined menu items in the SHEZ.INI file in
addition to the $F substitution variable, a $A and/or $M
variable may now also be used. $A will be substituted with the
full filename of the compressed file, if applicable, and $M
will be substituted with the selected compressed file member
name, if applicable.
Added What's new section to main DOS directory help screen.
v9.7 02/25/94 Made correction to the routine that identifies ARC and
PAK files.
Corrected the Compressed file information pop-up screen to
correctly display the total compressed file size.
Corrected problem when ten user defined menu items are entered
into the SHEZ.INI file.
Made fix to allow extraction of files that begin with the @
character.
Added support for the UC2 (Ultracompressor II) compression
program.
ESC key can now be configured to EXIT SHEZ immediately.
When sorting the list of files contained in a UC2 compressed
file by filename or file extension the file's version number
will be used in the sort criteria.
Added new command CTRL-D to the DOS directory display. This
command will display the FILE_ID.DIZ or the DESC.SDI file if
one of them is contained in the compressed file. The file's
contents will be displayed in a pop-up scrollable window on the
right side of the screen.
Added VIEW FILE_ID.DIZ to the mouse menu.
In order to make SHEZ more compatible when running in a
networked environment, the DISK setting in the SHEZCFG program
have been changed. Instead of entering an X to specify the
default disk drive, a blank will now be used to specify the
default disk drive.

Corrected memory allocation problem when moving/copying files.
Corrected Tagged file counts in the DOS directory display
window.
Corrected problem with the Quit menu item. (Not always exiting
when the exit item is picked)
V9.6 01/13/94 When sorting the Ascending/Descending dialog box will
now show the default sort order. Pressing the Enter key will
accept the displayed default.
The DOS windows size has been enlarged.
Before performing a copy operation, SHEZ will now check the
target drive for available space. If not enough space is
available an error message will be displayed.
Shez can now handle filenames beginning with a - for all
supported compressed file types.
Pressing the CTRL-X keys to exit was not working when issued
from the DOS directory window - FIXED.

Converting self extracting ARJ files back to a non-self
extracting file has been fixed.
SHEZ was not finding files when using the ? in a wildcard
specification, this has been fixed.
Added a new feature to only show the filenames of files that
contains the search pattern when searching the contents of a
compressed file.
When pressing the CTRL/ALT and a function key, sometimes the
function key line did not get updated correctly - FIXED.
Added support for ZIP files that SPAN multiple floppy disks.
If the number of files in a compressed file is greater then the
number of files SHEZ has been configured for, a warning message
will be displayed.
Increased the number of files per compressed file SHEZ can
handle to 3500.
(NOTE: Due to this change you may need to configure SHEZ to
swap itself out of memory when running compression programs and
external programs.)
V9.5 10/28/93 Added ability to extract single files whose file names
begin with a - from ZIP and ARJ files.
Added configuration items to specify default sort of Ascending
or Descending order.
Modified the speedsearch function when viewing the contents of
a compressed file. Speedsearch will now accept standard DOS
directory patterns instead of a single character.
Minor modifications to the LZH recognition routine.
Made modifications to the virus scan routine. Shez will now
first scan the .EXE or .COM files before attempting to
determine if they are self extracting compressed files.
Modified the exit routine speed up exiting SHEZ.
Corrected some minor problems with the help system.
Corrected minor dialog problems when creating new compressed
files.
Fixed memory allocation problem when attempting to allocate
storage to handle 2500 files per compressed file.
Added ability to perform regular expression searches when using
the ALT-G (scan files inside a compressed file) function.
Added ability to stop an ALT-G search by pressing the ESC key.
Added additional dialog box in the print function allowing the
user to specify if a header line should be printed.
v9.4 10/6/93 Fixed file viewing function when running under 4DOS.
Moved ZOOM/UNZOOM mouse selectable field to lower left corner
of DOS directory window.
Added configuration item allowing user to tell SHEZ the amount
of memory the virus scanning program requires.
The equal sign characters may now be used in the parameter
string when defining user menu items in the SHEZ.INI file.
Added reset mouse speed to drop down menu.
Corrected the ALT-S (virus scan a directory) function.
Added configuration item to deactivate the automatic time slice
release feature.
Nested compressed files may now be updated. If a nested

compressed file is updated SHEZ will automatically update all
compressed files above the nested compressed file.
When editing a file in a compressed file SHEZ will now save the
edited file back into the compressed file if the time, date, or
size of the edited file has been altered.
Increased files-per-directory and files-per-compressed file
limit to 2500 each.
Added internal support for printing to an HP Laser II,III,IV in
landscape compressed mode shading every other line.
Print functions have been modified to print the currently
highlighted file if no files are TAGGED, or it will print all
currently TAGGED files.
When converting files SHEZ will no longer set the ARCHIVE
attribute bit in the directory entry name.
Added ability to sort the file list in ascending or descending
order.
v9.3 9/07/93 Complete re-write of virus scanning function. Virus
scan is now much faster. It can scan nested compressed files,
including self extracting files, to an unlimited depth.
Corrected misc. errors when processing ARJ compressed files.
Added code to make SHEZ OS/2 and Windows enhanced mode aware.
When running under Desqview, OS/2, or Windows enhanced, SHEZ
will release its timeslice when waiting for keyboard input.
Added user defined menu function. When menu items are defined
in the SHEZ.INI file.
Added ability to ZOOM main DOS directory window. Also added
configuration item in SHEZCFG program to make ZOOMED state the
default. When window in ZOOMED and user is running under 4DOS
and has 4DOS descriptions enabled the descriptions will appear
to the right of the filenames.
Added support for 4DOS LIST function. The 4DOS LIST command
can now be used as the default viewer.
v9.2 8/11/93 SHEZ now looks for a SHEZ.INI, file instead of a
SHEZ.EV file, for external viewer information.
Completely revised the file print functions.
Added user defined printer support to the SHEZ.INI file.
Added new file print support. Four internal printing methods
are supported in addition to up to three user defined printers.
Removed filespec box when viewing a secondary directory
listing.
Added ability to virus scan a highlighted directory from the
DOS directory display window.
When moving back up a directory tree, SHEZ will attempt to
position the highlight bar at the previous location.
When converting compressed files to the same format, and the
original compressed files has a non-standard file extension,
SHEZ will now allow you to delete the original compressed file
after conversion.
Added support for ARJ 2.41 including security envelope
identification.
Added critical error handler to intercept most errors.
Added ability to convert a compressed file that is currently
being viewed.

Both the forward and back slash keys will now bring up the top
menu bar.
v9.1 7/10/93 Added user configuration option to intercept the CTRL-C
and CTRL-BREAK keys.
Added ability to change to a specific directory before
executing an external file viewer.
Added ability to pause after executing an external file viewer.
Corrected the processing of the SHEZ.EV file. In some cases
the specified viewer specification was not correctly being
interpreted.
When attempting to use an external viewer on a file with no
extension the default external viewer will be used if defined.
Added CTRL-S command to strip the master comment records from a
ZIP compressed file.
Added ability to identify SFX files built my the PKZIP family
mode programs.
Function key line commands are now mouse selectable.
Added mouse selectable items to some dialogue boxes. When the
dialogue box has mouse selectable item they will appear on the
bottom line of the box in curly braces.
Fixed problem where the CTRL-ENTER key was not functioning
after pressing the TAB key to open the secondary DOS directory
window.
Added CTRL-F4 function to create directories.
Added CTRL-F5 function to delete directory tree's.
Added support for ARJ 2.41.
Middle button of three button mouse will now pop-up the mouse
menu.
Mouse menu can also be activated by pressing and holding the
right mouse button, press the left mouse button and releasing
both.
v9.0 5/10/93 Made some fine adjustments to the LCD monitor color
set.
When creating a new compressed file the F9 (directory search
command) has been added.
Fixed lockup problem when pressing the END key in a directory
dialog box.
Moved SELF EXTRACTING type indentifier to the right side of the
seperator line.
Added option NOT to convert nested compressed files.
An error message will now be displayed if the EXTERNAL VIEWER
table file is not found.
Corrected problem when attempting to edit a file contained
within an ARJ compressed file that also contained PATH names.
Made additional corrections when attempting to list the
contents of a ZIP file that contains nested ZIP files.
Completely re-wrote and re-designed the MOUSE interface to
SHEZ.
