  3.                          MANUAL INSTALLATION GUIDE

  5. Sierra On-Line's Technical Support department prepared the following
  6. instructions as an added service to our customers.  PLEASE NOTE: SIERRA
  7. ON-LINE DOES NOT MAKE ANY CLAIMS, GUARANTEES, AND/OR PROMISES THAT THE
  8. FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS WILL WORK ON ANY AND/OR ALL COMPUTER SYSTEMS.

  10. Under some rare and unusual circumstances the INSTALL program that comes
  11. with King's Quest 6 may not be able to copy and configure all of the files
  12. from the floppy disks to a computer's hard disk drive.  For those rare
  13. instances we have created this manual installation guide.  Please follow
  14. the instructions in this guide very carefully.
  15.  
  16. First, create a subdirectory to copy the game files to by typing:
  17. MD SIERRA
  18. CD SIERRA 
  19.  
  20. MD KQ6
  21. CD KQ6
  22.  
  23. Now install the program files.:
  24.  
  25. Step #1    Insert disk #1
  26. Type:   COPY A:*.*
  27.  
  28. Step #2    
  29. Type:   REN INTRO.P01 SEQ.EXE
  30.  
  31. Step #3 Insert disk #2
  32. Type:   COPY/b SEQ.EXE+A:\INTRO.*
  33.         (substitute B: if you are installing from the B drive)
  34.  
  35. Step #4    Insert disk #3
  36. Type:   COPY/b SEQ.EXE+A:\INTRO.*
  37.         (substitute B: if you are installing from the B drive)
  38.  
  39. If you're installing from 5.25" disks repeat step #4 with disk #4.
  40.  
  41. Step #5    From disk #3 (3.5") or disk #4 (5.25")
  42. Type:   COPY A:\RESOURCE.P01  RESOURCE.000
  43.  
  44. Step #6    Insert disk #4 (3.5") or disk #5 (5.25")
  45. Type:   COPY/b  RESOURCE.000+A:\RESOURCE.*
  46.         (substitute B: if installing from B drive)
  47.  
  48. Repeat step #6 by pressing the F3 function key until you get to disk #8
  49. (3.5") or disk #10 (5.25").
  50.  
  51. Step #7    From disk #8 (3.5") or disk #10 (5.25") 
  52. Type:   COPY A:\AUDIO.P01  RESOURCE.AUD
  53.  
  54. Step #8    Insert disk #9 (3.5") or disk #11 (5.25")
  55. Type:   COPY/b  RESOURCE.AUD+A:\AUDIO.*
  56.  
  57. Step #9    Finally, type the following commands:
  58.  
  59. COPY A:\*.HEP
  60. COPY A:\*.SCR
  61. COPY A:\*.TEX
  62. COPY A:\*.V56
  63.  
  64. Now type INSTALL from the hard drive and choose your sound and video
  65. configuration.

  67.                       INSTALLING OPENING CARTOON ONLY
  68.  
  69. To only install the opening cartoon simply follow these steps:
  70.  
  71. Insert disk #1 and type:
  72. COPY A:\INTRO.P01  SEQ.EXE
  73.  
  74. Insert disk #2 and type:
  75. COPY/b  SEQ.EXE+A:\INTRO.*
  76.  
  77. Insert disk #3 and type:
  78. COPY/b  SEQ.EXE+A:\INTRO.*
  79.  
  80. If installing from 5.25" disks, insert disk #4 and type:
  81. COPY/b  SEQ.EXE+A:\INTRO.*
  82.  
  83. SEQ.EXE is a 3,022,622 bytes large and is a self-extracting archive file.
  84. When King's Quest 6 is first started from the KQ6.BAT file it automatically
  85. decompresses SEQ.EXE into the individual cartoon files.
  86.  
  87. The opening cartoon is 5,890,048 bytes when decompressed, so you must have
  88. at least 9 Megs of disk space availalble before attempting to install and
  89. decompress it.
  90.  
  91. After the SEQ.EXE file has been created on the hard drive you will need 6
  92. Megs of free disk space in order to decompress it. DELETING OPENING CARTOON
  93.  
  94. To delete the opening cartoon from the hard drive simply type  DEL *.SEQ
  95.
