Anagram Helper
Version 1.2
Copyright 1992, 1993 Olympic Systems

Introduction ...
Anagram Helper lists on your screen anagrams, or scrambled
letter combinations, of the word you enter. Normally the
program lists only combinations that are potentially pro-
nounceable in English; however, you may request a listing of
all possible combinations.
Use Anagram Helper to assist you in solving popular word
puzzles -- jumbles, scrambles, word lists, and the like.
Since it is not merely a dictionary look-up program, you can
also use it to create anagrams of your own.
Using the Program ...
Once you have started Anagram Helper (by changing to its
subdirectory and typing ANAGRAM at the C:> prompt), you will
see a title screen with instructions for use.
Note that this is shareware. If you do not understand its
concept, press <F2> for a description and information on
registering your copy.
Getting a list of anagrams is as simple as entering your
word or scrambled set of letters. Pressing <enter> starts
the listing. Possible anagrams appear in alphabetical order
with a pause after each full screen of output.
The title screen includes a counter for the number of char-
acters you type, which normally would also be the length of
the words listed. Sometimes, though, you may be looking for
words that are shorter than the original collection of
letters. To do this simply use the numeric keys to type the
length you want. You can type one or two digits, but do not
press <enter> until you are ready for the listing. Anagram
Helper will not let you enter a number higher than the
current count. Do this when you have finished entering all
the letters since the counter will continue counting from
where you set it if you add more letters afterward.
You have a choice of filtering out anagrams having letter
combinations which do not appear in English words. The
<tab> key toggles this option on or off, but Anagram Helper
starts with it on. The filter examines groups of three
letters (trigraphs) to make the decision; consequently, you
may see some anagrams that stretch your phonetic imagina-
tion. The filter has no effect if the output word length is
less than three.
After each screen of output, a rough progress estimate
appears in the upper right corner. When finished, the
program gives you the total number of anagrams found. If you
were filtering, Anagram Helper will also show the total
(unfiltered) number of letter combinations possible for your
word. The latter calculation does not appear, however, if
you were displaying partial anagrams with some of the origi-
nal letters alike.
