To Begin using XTerm, select Settings option from the Main Menu Bar.
When the Settings Dialog Box appears you will see the Settings options.
-Settings
-PORT options are COM1 thru COM4.
-BAUD RATE options are from 110 to 256,000.
-DATA BITS options are from 5 to 8.
-PARITY options are NONE, EVEN, ODD, MARK or SPACE.
-STOP BITS options are 1, 1.5, or 2.
-FLOW CONTROL options are DTR/DSR, RTS/CTS, and XON/XOFF.
-TTY options are AUTOWRAP, NEWLINE, and LOCAL ECHO.
If desired, you can select a Font different than System, which is the default.
-FONT options are FONT, STYLE, SIZE, EFFECTS, AND COLOR.
Next, you must select the Action option.
-ACTION
-CONNECT option connects your modem to the computer after you have made the proper settings.
-DISCONNECT option disconnects your modem from the computer and hangs up.
-EXIT option closes program.
-CALL
-DIAL option let's you call another computer.
INSTRUCTION:
Make sure the cursor is blinking in the box to the right of Dialing Number. Type in the number you want to dial and separate the numbers with a "," or "-" to pause for the telephone line
(e.g., 1,615,555,9357). Then, click the Dial button and wait.
Once you are on-line with the computer you called, you can communicate with
the person at that computer-even though, they may be using a different communications
program. If the computer you are calling is not in Host Mode, they can see what you
are typing but you cannot. If this happens, click on Echo and select On.
This will allow you to see the characters you are typing on the keyboard.
-Receive
To receive a file you can choose from five different protocols-XMODEM, YMODEM,
ZMODEM, KERMIT and ASCII. If you select XMODEM or ASCII protocols, you will be
prompted to type in the desired file name to receive.
If you select to receive a file(s) under YMODEM, ZMODEM or KERMIT protocols,
you will automatically be prompted to select the Start button. At this point
you will begin to receive desired file(s) automatically.
-Send
To send a file you can choose from five different protocols-XMODEM, YMODEM,
ZMODEM, KERMIT AND ASCII. After making this selection, you will be prompted
to type in the desired file name. Do not forget to include the path of where
the file resides on your hard drive.
-Host Mode
Host Mode allows your computer to become a host to a remote computer.
Upon making this selection, you will be prompted to simply click the OK button.
Your computer then automatically begins to wait for an incoming call.
