BBS.SCW by Randy Cooper
-----------------------
What is this file?
------------------
This is a communications document for Smartcom for Windows. If you do not have
Smartcom for Windows run to your local software retailer to buy it or order it
from your favorite mail order house. Until 7/31/93 you can buy this for $49
from Hayes at 404-441-1617 if you cannot find it locally. You cannot use
BBS.SCW without Smartcom for Windows.
What does it do?
----------------
OVERVIEW - This communications document is actual several different
applications.
1) Dialing Directory
2) Download directory utility
3) SCOPE command line interface
4) SCW Delete utility
5) SCW Rename utility
6) Application launcher
[1] - o - [ SCWIN DIALER ] - Dialing directory interface provides easy calling
and phone book management. Circular dialing, , credit card support, phone
prefixes, and auto-online logon buttons make this one of the best dialers ever
for calling BBSs! US BBS List-to-directory conversion utility included!
ProComm eat your heart out!
Features Benefits
-------- --------
Dialing Directory Interface Uses standard 'dialing directory' user
interface for simple dialing. Also
allows you to dial lots of places
without having to create lots of
comdocs.
Intelligent Dialing Directory You tell it what your local area code
is and it knows whether your call is
long distance or not and adds the
appropriate dialing command. Change
your local area code when traveling
and you'll never have to update another
dialing directory on the road again!
Simple ASCII Dialing Directory format Let's you maintain dialing directories
as a simple text file for easy editing
of entries. This makes it easy for you
to make your own dialing directories
and exchange them with other users. No
more fiddling around trying to enter
more phone numbers in your comm
program.
Multiple Dialing Directory Support Allows easy switching between dialing
directories and stores as many entries
as permitted by disk space.
Many dialing directories included Tons of BBSs included with the sample
directories, so you can start calling
all types of BBSs throughout the
country - right away!
Redial List/Circular dialing If call doesn't go through the first
time, you're prompted to continue
redialing or add that entry to a
redial list. Continues dialing list
until connected. Great for trying to
get through to busy BBSs! You can even
save redial lists as dialing
directories for later use !
Auto-Redial Redials after 10 seconds or moves to
next entry in batch mode in 5 seconds-
automatically! Perfect for busy
people.
Windows Sound Support You can assign different windows WAV
files to play when the script loads,
a connection is established or a
connection attempt has failed.
(Requires Soundblaster or equivalent)
Credit Card Dialing Saves money when making long distance
calls when away from your home or
office. Makes using a credit card with
a modem a no-fuss option.
Phone Prefix support Adds the prefix such a 9 to
dial an outside line on internal
phone systems. Hotel support for
different prefixes for local and long
distance calling.
Call Waiting Disable Option Let's you easily disable call waiting
while using the modem and call waiting
is automatically turned back on when
the mode hangs up!
Auto-logon buttons Once connected the button set changes
to allow easy logon and registrations
to the system. (First Name, Last Name,
Address buttons, etc.) NOTE: Be sure
to edit these buttons before use!
USBB2DIR.EXE This utility takes the US BBS List and
converts it to the text format usuable
as a dialing directory. Call ONLINE
WITH HAYES to get the latest list then
update your directories fast! BBSs
sorted by state for easy selection!
(*NOTE* This is a DOS program written
in Clipper meant to run on the DOS
command line. You MUST have expanded
memory available in order for these
utilities to work!)
[2] - o - [ RCV MANAGER ] - Ok so now you've downloaded some ZIP files and you
want to look at what you've got! That's where the RCV MGR comes into play!
This unzip files to the destination of your choice! Fast file management
without ever leaving Smartcom! This is the EASY way to deal with downloads!
(Requires PKZIP)
[3] - o - [ SCOPE COMMANDER ] - Heh, how bout a command line interface for
SCOPE?! This allows for a one line SCOPE command, compiles it, runs it then
returns to the COMMANDER. If there is an error in your command line the script
will stop. This is an excellent way for someone who is learning SCOPE to
practice. It also mimicks that command line interface option of Xtalk Mk4. It
is NOT necessary to end a command with a ";" (semi-colon) like in SCOPE as the
COMMANDER adds this automatically for you but if you do happen to do it by
habit it will politely ignore you.
[4] - o - [ DELETE SCW ] - Ever pulled up FILE/OPEN and said "boy there sure
is a lot of stuff here I don't use, never will, and would like to trash" ? If
so, this one's for you! This reads all the *.SCW <comdocs> and let's you
delete one.
[5] - o - [ RENAME SCW ] - Ever pulled up FILE/OPEN and said "Now why on earth
did I name it that?" ? This reads all the *.SCW <comdocs> and let's you rename
one.
[6] - o - [ PROGRAM RUNNER ] - This program mimics what you get under FILE/RUN
in PROGMAN but it remembers the last command you typed. Also support command
line arguments as well.
How do I install it?
--------------------
Copy to contents of the distribution disk to your \SCWIN\COM\ directory.
CAUTION: If you already have a BBS.SCW file rename it to something else or it
will be overwritten!
You will need PKZIP (I recommend version 2.04G available on almost any BBS).
If you continue to use it - pay for it. The guys are PKware are straight up
dudes - be straight up with them.
If you have any problems send me some e-mail and I'll try to figure it out
and get back with you asap.
What's coming next?
-------------------
Heck, I'll never tell... you tell me where your head is at...
Suggestions keep me driving - so, if you've got a way to improve this let me
know. Send e-mail to the address below...
Terms and Conditions
