  2. DO NOT INSTALL THIS PATCH UNLESS YOU HAVE BOTH
  3. PC Tools for Windows 2.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11

  6. This patch corrects incompatibilities between DiskFix, Optimizer, and Undelete
  7. applications and PC Tools for Windows 2.0 and the 32-bit file access
  8. option of Windows for Workgroups 3.11.  You MUST have both PC Tools for
  9. Windows 2.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 to apply this patch.  The
  10. patch can be installed automatically or manually.  If the patch can not
  11. be installed automatically you must complete the manual install procedure.

  14. TO APPLY THE PATCH AUTOMATICALLY:
  15.  
  16. - If you are in Windows, exit to DOS.
  17.  
  18. - Switch to the directory containing this patch.
  19.  
  20. - Type PINSTALL followed by the directories containing PC Tools for
  21.   Windows 2.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and press <ENTER>.
  22.  
  23.       Syntax: PINSTALL <PC Tools for Windows 2.0 directory> <WFW 3.11 directory>
  24.       Example: PINSTALL C:\CPS C:\WINDOWS
  25.  
  26.   This will modify some existing PC Tools for Windows files and your
  27.   system.ini file, as well as add two new files, cp32sup.386 and
  28.   vfathlp.386, to your Windows system directory.
  29.  
  30. - If this method is unsuccessful, you will have to apply the patch manually.

  33. TO APPLY THE PATCH MANUALLY:
  34.  
  35. - If you are in Windows, exit to DOS.
  36.  
  37. - Switch to the directory containing this patch.
  38.  
  39. - Type PATCH followed by the directory containing PC Tools for Windows,
  40.   followed by BASE.RTP, and then press <ENTER>.
  41.  
  42.       Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> BASE.RTP
  43.       Example: PATCH C:\CPS BASE.RTP
  44.  
  45.   This will modify the following PCTW files: wndfix.exe, wnfsv2.dll,
  46.   wnopt.exe, wnoptmon.dll.

  49. The next step is language dependent.  EXECUTE ONLY ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVES

  52. ENGLISH language version of PC Tools for Windows, type the following:
  53.    Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> SC_US.RTP
  54.       Example: PATCH C:\CPS SC_US.RTP
  55.       Result:  This will modify the PCTW file wnsc.exe
  56.    Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows ENGLISH LANGUAGE subdirectory> ENGLISH.RTP
  57.       Example PATCH C:\CPS\ENGLISH ENGLISH.RTP
  58.       This will modify the PCTW files wndfixl.rsl and wnoptl.rsl
  59.  
  60. FRENCH language version of PC Tools for Windows, type the following:
  61.    Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> SC_FRGR.RTP
  62.       Example: PATCH C:\CPS SC_FRGR.RTP
  63.       This will modify the PCTW file wnsc.exe
  64.    Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows FRENCH LANGUAGE subdirectory> FRENCH.RTP
  65.       Example PATCH C:\CPS\FRENCH FRENCH.RTP
  66.       This will modify the PCTW files wndfixl.rsl and wnoptl.rsl
  67.  
  68. GERMAN language version of PC Tools for Windows, type the following:
  69.    Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> SC_FRGR.RTP
  70.       Example: PATCH C:\CPS SC_FRGR.RTP
  71.       This will modify the PCTW file wnsc.exe
  72.    Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows GERMAN LANGUAGE directory> GERMAN.RTP
  73.       Example PATCH C:\CPS\GERMAN GERMAN.RTP
  74.       This will modify the PCTW files wndfixl.rsl and wnoptl.rsl

  77. Regardless of  language execute all of the following steps

  80. - Copy the following two files to your Windows system directory:
  81.       cp32sup.386 and vfathlp.386.
  82.  
  83. - Add the following two lines to the [386Enh] section of SYSTEM.INI:
  84.       DEVICE=CP32SUP.386
  85.       DEVICE=VFATHLP.386
  86.

  92. NOTE: If after applying this patch, you reinstall the DiskFix,
  93. Optimizer, or System Consultant portions of PC Tools for Windows, you
  94. should apply the patch again.

  96. DELETE SENTRY AND 32-BIT FILE ACCESS:
  97. Delete Sentry protection is provided by a DOS TSR.  Windows for
  98. Workgroups 3.11 prevents it from functioning when 32-bit file access is enabled.

  100. MIRROR AND 32-BIT FILE ACCESS:
  101. Mirror is a DOS program which can be run by Optimizer.  Windows for
  102. Workgroups 3.11 prevents it from functioning when 32-bit file access is enabled.
  103.  
  104. WINDOWS WON'T START AFTER INSTALLING PATCH:
  105.    Try removing the DEVICE=VFATHLP.386 line from the Windows SYSTEM.INI file.
  106. If Windows will start after removing this line, then you are not using Windows
  107. for Workgroups 3.11, or you are using a version of Windows for Workgroups 3.11
  108. that is not identical to the release version.  Leave the line out and you can
  109. continue to use Windows normally.
  110.    Try removing both the DEVICE=VFATHLP.386 and DEVICE=CP32SUP.386 lines from
  111. the Windows SYSTEM.INI file.  If Windows will now start, leave the lines out
  112. and continue to use Windows normally.  This patch is incompatible with your
  113. Windows or system configuration.
