*******************************************************************************
DO NOT INSTALL THIS PATCH UNLESS YOU HAVE BOTH
PC Tools for Windows 2.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11
*******************************************************************************
This patch corrects incompatibilities between DiskFix, Optimizer, and Undelete
applications and PC Tools for Windows 2.0 and the 32-bit file access
option of Windows for Workgroups 3.11. You MUST have both PC Tools for
Windows 2.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 to apply this patch. The
patch can be installed automatically or manually. If the patch can not
be installed automatically you must complete the manual install procedure.
TO APPLY THE PATCH AUTOMATICALLY:
- If you are in Windows, exit to DOS.
- Switch to the directory containing this patch.
- Type PINSTALL followed by the directories containing PC Tools for
Windows 2.0 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11 and press <ENTER>.
Syntax: PINSTALL <PC Tools for Windows 2.0 directory> <WFW 3.11 directory>
Example: PINSTALL C:\CPS C:\WINDOWS
This will modify some existing PC Tools for Windows files and your
system.ini file, as well as add two new files, cp32sup.386 and
vfathlp.386, to your Windows system directory.
- If this method is unsuccessful, you will have to apply the patch manually.
TO APPLY THE PATCH MANUALLY:
- If you are in Windows, exit to DOS.
- Switch to the directory containing this patch.
- Type PATCH followed by the directory containing PC Tools for Windows,
followed by BASE.RTP, and then press <ENTER>.
Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> BASE.RTP
Example: PATCH C:\CPS BASE.RTP
This will modify the following PCTW files: wndfix.exe, wnfsv2.dll,
wnopt.exe, wnoptmon.dll.
*******************************************************************************
The next step is language dependent. EXECUTE ONLY ONE OF THE ALTERNATIVES
*******************************************************************************
ENGLISH language version of PC Tools for Windows, type the following:
Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> SC_US.RTP
Example: PATCH C:\CPS SC_US.RTP
Result: This will modify the PCTW file wnsc.exe
Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows ENGLISH LANGUAGE subdirectory> ENGLISH.RTP
Example PATCH C:\CPS\ENGLISH ENGLISH.RTP

FRENCH language version of PC Tools for Windows, type the following:
Syntax: PATCH <PC Tools for Windows directory> SC_FRGR.RTP
Example: PATCH C:\CPS SC_FRGR.RTP

Other information
*******************************************************************************
NOTE: If after applying this patch, you reinstall the DiskFix,
Optimizer, or System Consultant portions of PC Tools for Windows, you
should apply the patch again.
DELETE SENTRY AND 32-BIT FILE ACCESS:
Delete Sentry protection is provided by a DOS TSR. Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 prevents it from functioning when 32-bit file access is enabled.
MIRROR AND 32-BIT FILE ACCESS:
Mirror is a DOS program which can be run by Optimizer. Windows for
Workgroups 3.11 prevents it from functioning when 32-bit file access is enabled.
WINDOWS WON'T START AFTER INSTALLING PATCH:
Try removing the DEVICE=VFATHLP.386 line from the Windows SYSTEM.INI file.
If Windows will start after removing this line, then you are not using Windows
for Workgroups 3.11, or you are using a version of Windows for Workgroups 3.11
that is not identical to the release version. Leave the line out and you can
continue to use Windows normally.
Try removing both the DEVICE=VFATHLP.386 and DEVICE=CP32SUP.386 lines from
the Windows SYSTEM.INI file. If Windows will now start, leave the lines out
and continue to use Windows normally. This patch is incompatible with your
Windows or system configuration.
